Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 04, 2014 7:51 am I would like to reposition an air conditioning outlet that is in the side wall of our downstairs Family Room. I can easily access behind this wall from a WIR behind it. My problem is that, looking at photos of our house as it was being built it is apparent that their are metal cross bracing strips in the vicinity of the area where I would like to cut a 200ml by 400ml hole for the vent. Can a bracing strip be cut once the house is complete or would that weaken the wall? Re: Cutting Into Walls 2Jul 04, 2014 8:42 am Yes you can cut it but you will weaken the wall. The bracing is there for a reason. If you do cut it you will have to take steps to ensure the structural integrity of the wall is not compromised. To do this you would probably have to strip that wall of cladding ( inside probably easiest ) and replace the bracing with another that runs full length from the top plate down to the bottom plate at 45º basically replicating the existing. Stewie I use Tramex moisture meter and it will tell me instantly if the wall is cement sheet or plaster or masonite but most people dont have the equipment. 5 7086 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11835 8 6138 |
