Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 04, 2014 1:05 am Hi, I'm looking to choose a wood look laminate for my new build kitchen benchtop. Would love to have real timber top but was quoted over 6k yesterday so laminate it is. Not keen on bamboo. Below is a pic of our kitchen cupboards, same colour, fronts and over heads but we're not having the extra little details, swirls etc that make the kitchen look more provincial. Also having brushed silver door knobs instead. Kitchen; http://postimg.org/image/p85ybknkz/ Going to have large sandy colour tiles on floor, white 10cm x 30cm subway style tiles for kitchen walls and hog bristle for remaining walls. I like this look for a laminate, against the white cupboards; http://www.houzz.com/photos/9459992/Har ... n-adelaide Would prefer wood 'look' to not be too light or too red. What do people think of these laminates??; 1. http://www.duropal.com.au/decors/block- ... ors/block- 2. http://www.wilsonart.com/homeowners/lam ... l?sku=7973 Any ideas/advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you:-) Re: Help: Need Wood Look laminate for kitchen benchtop, pics 2Jul 04, 2014 5:29 am Hi Frenchie. I reakon ikea might be able to solve your quandry. Laminate is a dreadful product(..............forget it.) http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/categories/departments/kitchen/10472/ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Comes with a 25 Year Guarantee..................they can custom make them to your measurements, Cheap as buttons I reakon. You could get a bit of linseed oil into this and darken it up.................would smell heavenly as well if ya did this. You could pretty much stain these tops to literaly anything you want. I'd be researching how to stain and seal these, once that was established I reakon they should last well and they look great. Found a thread where people are discussing their Ikea counter tops here. http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg0517183910010.html They say "Tested to stand up to years of use, our kitchen benchtops give you lots of choice of styles and materials. As well as the ready-made ones shown here, we have a made-to-order range, too. These PERSONLIG benchtops will be perfectly adapted to your kitchen layout and you can get a sink put in at the factory, too. Just ask at the store for more information." The Ikea solution looks a millions times better! Also, I reckon you should go for a more natural oak type colour rather than the chocolate tones. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Help: Need Wood Look laminate for kitchen benchtop, pics 4Jul 04, 2014 8:41 pm Thanks Wandin Valley and EmyN:-) Great suggestions re timber top, thank you!:-) Excellent links too! The Ikea benchtop examples look gorgeous. We're are in a bit of a predicament with the kitchen bench top because we won't get any credit back for not using the laminate that's included in our build . Our cabinetry variations alone were about 5k more then anticipated (the one thing I didn't research!grrr) so I figure, we'll get the wood look laminate installed now as it's included and then at a later date spend some dedicated time on looking at putting in a proper timber top. The one from Ikea looks ideal and doesn't seem to have any warping/splitting issues which I've seen before with wood coming from overseas. We'd love to just put in the Ikea timber top now but we live in a rural area (nearest ikea is 3hours drive away) and it would have to be a custom job, we'd also need to hire a plumber to install sink and tap etc and it would immediately be an additional cost of perhaps $1500-$2000 (on top of the unexpected $5k).For us it will be more practical to use the laminate now. We can then reuse the laminate for a future bench/table top for our shed once we pull it out. Has anyone ever pulled out/removed a laminate benchtop before?? Re: Help: Need Wood Look laminate for kitchen benchtop, pics 5Jul 04, 2014 10:50 pm Yeh in my old house . first home had laminex for 8years .then put a granite bench top in . was very small island bench with sink and around the stove . gave measurements of sink and stove to bench people . and we glued it down ourselves . it can be done We are tossing up between a Jarrahdale radiant wood fire (the Pioneer) and a convection wood fire (Innovator or Countryman) but cannot decide on which type of wood fire is… 0 5251 yeah i couldnt picture it issue either, but i could clearly picture what they were doing wrong haha 2 5300 Hi Courtney The mitred edges are glued up with epoxy so those little holes and gaps are areas that weren't filled correctly. Silicone is the wrong product to fill them… 2 12926 |
