Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 02, 2014 11:56 am We are building our house with us in mind, but also re-sale, it's our first home so we don't expect to be there forever. We have a double vanity in our ensuite with 2 basins, however i'm now questioning whether to do one basin and have more bench space. Which do you prefer? Thanks! Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Ensuite Question 2Jul 02, 2014 12:15 pm A lot of that will depend on the size of your vanity to start with. I've seen a few in homes for sale that had crammed two largish basins onto a 1200mm wide vanity just so they could say they have a two bowl vanity. The result is very little usable bench space. If it was wider, say 1500mm - 2000mm then it would be a different story. Stewie Re: Ensuite Question 3Jul 02, 2014 12:46 pm From memory it is 1500, going to get as small a basin we can without it looking odd also to make the most of the bench space Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Ensuite Question 4Jul 02, 2014 1:05 pm We have just put 2 basins in our 1800 vanity. As long as you don't have too larger basins I think it would look more balanced. Re: Ensuite Question 5Jul 02, 2014 1:17 pm If you have the space. Add the second. In my situation, hubby and I travel to work together, so we get ready at the same time in the mornings. At our current rental, single bathroom, single basin - we are tripping all over each other. First world problems I know! But in our case, it'll make things much easier for us, so we've done it. We didn't have to cram them in though, so it really wasn't much of a thought. This way Ms Echo's crap has no where to live and has to be put away in the cupboard and draws, Result - cleaner, less cluttered bench. Good point Echo i'm sure my partner will agree! Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Ensuite Question 8Jul 02, 2014 4:52 pm Two is best imo. Also - if you don't already - a good light above them - one is enough - middle. Strong LED beam. I don't need it but Mrs SM really likes it. Re: Ensuite Question 9Jul 02, 2014 6:14 pm I went for one sink. You can never have enough bench space. Or powerpoints, I have two doubles on either side of the bench! I don't think bench space = more mess. I'm a bit OCD, so everything has its place. When I'm getting ready in a hurry however, I like the comfort of scattering my belongings all over the bench. Makeup, hair straighteners and products, you'd be amazed how much space that cr*p can take up. As for the timing issue, my partner and I seem to successfully time the brushing of teeth so far! I'm also a plumbers daughter, so two sinks means two taps that can leak, more washers to replace etc. I didn't think it was necessary to have two sinks, but I think I may be in the minority. You mentioned resale, so perhaps stick with your gut and go for two. Re: Ensuite Question 10Jul 02, 2014 6:48 pm I'd go one - we deleted the second basin in our ensuite because a) we never use the bathroom at the same time b) it will give us more bench space c) less to clean. FWIW I have moved our one sink over to one side of our reasonably small vanity and put a bank of drawers under the bench space to give us more useable space and more functional storage. Thanks for all your input! Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Ensuite Question 13Jul 02, 2014 11:03 pm We took the second out and stuck with one basin ... I love bench space and don't like cleaning more than I have to! Plus, I am a bathroom hog and like to be in there on my own, no 20 questions from kids and no hubby plucking nose hairs. Therefore, only one basin required! Re: Ensuite Question 14Jul 03, 2014 7:08 am in one ensuite we have two basins and in the other ensuite one and i prefer the two basins so much better Re: Ensuite Question 16Jul 13, 2014 8:38 am We have two in the ensuite - great - but our bench is 2.2 long. Plenty of room. Only one in the main bathroom. Re: Ensuite Question 17Jul 13, 2014 9:36 am We are having one and it will be positioned to the side in order to maximise bench space. BLOG: http://www.ourphoenix38.blogspot.com.au H1 THREAD: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70454 Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6142 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11837 |
