Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 27, 2014 5:23 pm I discovered this forum a couple of months ago, and have gathered invaluable advice and information here on building a new home. We are second time home owners but first time builders. We are building a house on our block in Stoneville after losing the original house in the January bushfire. It was devastating to go through the experience and lose everything, but we are now trying to look forward and move on with our lives, which includes getting a brand new house After looking at tonnes of plans, all of which just weren't right, we decided to do a custom build, working with an architect who works with the builder we have selected. Our builder is a reasonably small hills builder, but with a very good reputation for quality. We are still playing around with the plan, but I will put it on here to hopefully get input from some of you. Can I just attach a file to here to upload?

Forgive me for the copy/paste job. First of all, check this thread; viewtopic.php?f=70&t=1272 But if you can't be bothered with that, here is what I do; Step 1 - Sign up to an image hosting website. I use photobucket. Step 2 - Uploads your photos in the same way as you would on facebook back in the day. Navigate to the photo on your computer and click upload! Step 3 - Copy/paste links. On photobucket these will be on the righthand side of your photo. Copy the [img] code to your clipboard, then paste into your homeone post. Ta-da! Photobucket has a smartphone App also, which can make the process super easy if the photos are on your phone. They aren't enough custom builds on here, so I look forward to following this one. Kudos to your admirable attitude in light of terrible and unfortunate circumstances. I wish you all the best for your new build Re: Perth hills re-build 7Jun 27, 2014 9:55 pm AKB Posting to follow I can't imagine going through what you have me too Re: Perth hills re-build 8Jun 27, 2014 10:13 pm Well i won't say it hasn't been tough because it has and still is but its amazing how your body and brain react to crises. you don't get more than you can handle at a time. can anyone actually see the plan I've attached? Re: Perth hills re-build 11Jun 28, 2014 4:07 am Yep for me it comes up with 'session timed out' I'm reading this on my iPhone <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: Perth hills re-build 17Jun 29, 2014 11:34 am Is anyone putting in an ATu instead of a septic system? Our builder has suggested it as it uses your grey water but there is extra cost and i think you have to get it serviced a couple of times a year. can you please share the pros and cons of putting this in? Re: Perth hills re-build 18Jun 29, 2014 12:48 pm Im also concerned that the middle of the house is going to be quite dark but not sure how to rearrange to lighten things up. we can use skylight if necessary but would prefer to design it better in the first place. any suggestions? Re: Perth hills re-build 19Jun 29, 2014 5:56 pm On the ATU front - roughly speaking you are looking at about $16k for a system, and 1/4ly inspections at $100 - $120 each time. Your previous underground sewerage system should still be ok to use. (well at least the septic tank and leachdrain) Even if it's not being sub-divided and you want to keep it as Torrens title, you will still need to talk to a town planner or Council themselves, to see if they will allow… 1 11033 Thanks again Simeon for being so elaborate. Appreciate it. Its gives us a very idea. Kind Regards 4 3665 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 17581 |
