You are probably already 6k in the hole to walk away anyway and it's a cost you'll need to pay with any builder. I'd just pay it. What's your allowance on site work? That can be a indicator of the "surprises" you are in at later stages. Also it is a good time to review your contract to see how many provisional costs are there. For every one of those you see, expect to put in a few pennies. It's a little sad, but that's how some of the builders do.
