Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 21, 2014 2:32 pm Hi, I am new to this forum. I am in the process of a build with JG King in Victoria. The ground has not been broken yet - still working through contracts and plans etc. I have my colour selection next week. Though I don't have to pick tiles for a while, it is obviously something you think about when you are coming up to colour selection for everything else, so I have been to have a look at what is included in the standard range - I didn't hate them but they are also not what I had in mind. I need to keep costs as low as possible, but I don't want a tile I will be really unhappy with, so I have allowed some $ in my budget to upgrade the tiles if needed. I went to Beaumont Tiles and they told me about their sticker system (green is standard, I think silver was the next level up, then red, and then gold - don't quote me). I am building a small home - the Melba 1A - but I am getting tiles throughout, except the bedrooms and robes. I just wondered if anyone has experience or information to share about how much it might cost to upgrade the floor tiles? There is a silver stickered tile I like which is 450 x 450, which I think is a porcelain tile. Alternatively, if anyone has used one of their standard tiles and would like to post some pictures, that would also be really helpful! (I am not good at imagining how they will look on a larger scale)... I am going with greys for my colour scheme. NB I couldn't find any other current threads on the topic, but if you know of one that already exists, feel free to point me in the right direction. Thanks! Re: Standard tiles? Cost to upgrade tiles? 3Jun 21, 2014 8:02 pm Hi Carlz welcome to the forum. I found tile upgrades to be pricey, particularly as there is also an increased labour cost. For example our splashback was going to be an extra $1,000 to upgrade the tiles. There was a minimal difference so we were really shocked, even the girl working with us thought it would only be around 300-500. If you want porcelain you need to put a lot of money aside. They are a lot more in labour charges as well. My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70636&p=1161767#p1161767 Re: Standard tiles? Cost to upgrade tiles? 4Jun 21, 2014 8:24 pm Although I am not Building with JG King, I upgraded my main floor tiles from 400x400mm to 300x600 and one category above standard.
