Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 24, 2015 11:49 pm Hi We are currently building our home and our builder used the wrong mortar. Well for half the house the correct mortar was used and then for the other half another colour was used. The house is literally half white and half yellow. It is also really noticeable too. They stuffed up the window heights so they had to lift them higher. Unfortunately the bircky was already on site so he decided to brick up to the windows wait for the chippy to finish raising the windows and then brick from windows up. The house literally has white mortar on the bottom and then yellow mortar on the top. It looks absolutely ridiculous. I asked the builder why that happened and he said because the bricky used the wrong sand. My builder said they well grind out the mortar and put the correct colour in but only for the front and Alfesco areas which we will see the most. What should I do? I feel massively jibbed. They made me pay close to $1,000 to have the white mortar instead of natural and not it is worse than if we had just gone all natural. Should they just knocked it all down and start again. I feel like this would be a huge expense to them. Part of me thinks their solution is ok but the other half is like this is not what I paid for. On top of that every time I ask for something extra they point to the contract and say if its not in there it will cost you an arm and a leg. Same with samll defects they are very quick to point to BCA and say nope it is within building code. Should I go hard at them and say nope it's in the contract I won't it fixed properly as per the contract? This seems like a massive stuff up. Any advice would be great. Cheers Re: Builder error - Wrong mortat. Advise 2May 25, 2015 8:09 am If you paid extra for white mortar, they should provide you with what you paid for. If they can fix it in some areas they can fix it in others. But if you think their solution is going to look ok, ask for a credit for what they didn't provide. Advise 3May 25, 2015 8:58 am Ask for the $1,000 back plus the front and alfresco solution or they keep the $1,000 and fix all mortar back to the White that was agreed to as per contract. Re: Builder error - Wrong mortat. Advise 4May 26, 2015 2:43 am They have to fix this. You have to go bit harder. If bricky did this mistake and they accepted this, it means they have to do something about this. I don't know you like render but this is good and easy fix. If they asking for extra money, you should say no. Re: Builder error - Wrong mortat. Advise 5May 26, 2015 6:26 am My question is, where was builder of his supervisor when this was going on?
