Was so worried when I say it first laid on Monday but as now it's started to dry the natural light grey mortar seems fine. We'll have to start seriously thinking about this stuff soon - I just gave the go ahead to order our soil and site tests Looks like we're doing this thing! Wowsers the price per data point is a bit steep. We're thinking the extra power points we want might blow out our budget quite a bit Why did you want so many data points? Is it for future 'just in case' or are you across all the IT stuff. Despite having worked in a large IT department for over a decade, I'm woefully ignorant about data cabling and needs. Data cables, we have one and nbn pack cost just over $600. I figure yes IT related and they think tvs will be high speed internet connections in a few years, but honestly for the cost and wireless on the rise it's personnal choice. Good luck deciding. We will still be using wireless as we'll but that will only be used by iPad or phone devices as we use the fast connection available from using a wired network to stream high definition content, to utilize the full speed from the fatest speed available on the NBN (wireless is not capable of providing really anything above 50mb/s unless you us AC wireless technology) and finally newer foxtel technology can be sent via two network ports so we wanted to try and future proof the house. Plus any data point can be turned into a phone point using the right connector. We have the tile appointment on the 18th so we are going to Beaumont again this weekend to decide on what we prefer again. Fingers crossed. Yeah atm I have a media PC for the lounge room that serves the media throughout the house. The rest of the 5 data points for the lounge room are for all our consoles and our airport express to extend wifi to the back of the house. Then two dp for bedroom 4 as my partner and I are big gamers and would prefer direct connection to the switch then sharing one data point and run between two computers. The other bedrooms are getting 2 dp's due to future connections and possibly for phone connections plus it is cheaper to get them installed during building. Yeah I've heard that a few Beaumont tiles in qld aren't the best for customer service, the place we went to near maitland in nsw was quite nice with great staff so hopefully we can chose what we want this weekend and come to the official colour and tile selection with good ideas and a firm hand in knowing what we want. Mostly chosen latte chocolate sought of colours and unfortunately i didn't take any photos but we are having the proper tiling selection appointment on friday so i will take the photos then. We really like the tiles that look like wooden floor boards but they incur additional labor costs so we will see if we can afford them. We signed all the plans and the tendor that were handed to us a few weeks back and waited for the contract to be sent to our solicitor and found out today from coral that the tendor was basically a contract with the HIA contract. It seems Coral with house and land packages within estates can combine the tendor and contract all in one which is nice and easy but we needed to make changes to the tendor as they didn't include everything we wanted. For example we wanted 13 extra data points and they only gave us an extra 5, only gave us a 600mm gas cooker when we asked for a 900mm one and they didn't include insulation to the roof of the garage either. Our sales consultant did say that she specifically requested them and that they can be changed in the electrical and finishes appointment. I did have an email sent off to our customer service officer mentioning that we requested these changes and that we wont be charged any variation to contract fees to have them adjusted. Has any one else had the same issue with things not being included even though requested? Would you mind sharing once you find out? I love the look of floorboards, but the husband doesn't want them at all. This might be a compromise he can live with. I don't think it's uncommon for them (any builder) to not include things that you've asked for from what I've read. It'd be pretty rich if they ask you to pay a variation fee though! Can you get it in writing that your consultant asked for them? We're still waiting for the soil test to be done We've had the contour guy out this week, but I don't know how they're going to get the drill up to our backyard for the soil test. I guess we'll just have to wait to see... With our area that is going to be tiled we roughly worked out that it it may cost us about $1,350 in labour to lay them as they are either a weird size or they are rectified. I will post everything that we find out and pictures of the tiles that were selected. We really like them because we like floor boards through the main parts of the house but can't afford proper ones and the tiles are easier to maintain and more hardy and we can also use the outdoor version outside for the entertainment area. Yeah we have emailed the customer service officer who is handling the contract side and stating we requested and if they say anything then ill just ask the sales consultant for a copy of her emails if she be so kind. When did u pay for the soil tests to be completed? We paid and then it was at the end of week 3 we noticed holes were in the ground. LOL Our current house is right in the middle of the block, but we have fences either side so I don't see how they'd get a ute up the back. I don't think they'd be happy to rely on soil tests from 30 years ago either! We paid the deposit on the 26/6 but didn't really commit to the tests until the 3/7, so only two weeks ago (our sales guy got permission for us to lock in the price but not ordering the tests until we got financial approval). Good to know that it could take a few weeks. I'm a tiny bit concerned we'll get funky soil tests and it'll put our site costs up. Unfounded since the tests 30 years ago showed slightly-moderately reactive clay, so an M class slab should be fine. Have you been given any estimation on how long the admin process will take? Or the construction for that matter? I'm hoping we can start with the demo and build in about 9 months and wondering if that's realistic. Nice to know you can lock in the prices because they can increase a fair bit if your not careful. We had our sales consultant go on holidays during the first two weeks after we paid the deposit to have the soil tests done and no one had told us she had gone or even a away from office reply. So once she came back we finally got in contact again and we had the results back that week. umm our estimates for the admin were pretty much not mentioned at all and just said that the building process as we are building in stage 7 of the estate with a house and land package that was pretty much pre approved by council will be about 14 weeks once the block was cut and slab poured. since we didn't change much to the original plan our tender and contract didn't take long but has meant that we wont be in the house before xmas since a few weeks have gone by without much information and no one really telling my partner and i what we need to do due to this being our first time building. Today though we went in for our meeting with the tile consultant. We had been into Beaumont Tiles twice to have a look at the range and fell in love with the wood like tiles as we like wooden floors but the tiles are easier to maintain and a lot cheaper. We also wanted some chocolate/latte sought of colours for the house and found a few we liked and made a wish list and then a safe list. The safe list included tiles that were within the range for Coral Homes that wouldn't cost us anything as we only had a small budget for tiles. We went in with the list of tiles that we liked and the lady gave us some great news that the tiles in our wish list we had wouldn't cost us anything (no extra labor costs) because Coral expanded their range to include a few more tiles. So now we don't have to fork out over a grand to get the wooden look tile in the below pictures that we wanted and could spend the money on the kitchen splash back which will be the orange tile that will be 100mmx300mm size laid horizontally. Hmm those don't seem like major changes but the only thing i can think of is that it might take them a little bit more time because they fabricate the frame offsite so since its not to plan they will just have to re measure and then make it that way. Signed contract last week getting the selection appointments sorted for now. Land doesn't settle till October so we have some time to get this sorted. I really love the wood like tile you selected. We have two small dogs do couldn't go for laminated wooden floors. Didn't want tiles throughout so went for vinyl with tiles around the kitchen and wet areas. Ask the council if there is a chance of getting build over easement exemption. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck.
