Of course a media room is totally different in that respect. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Blog : http://bandlnewhomebuild.blogspot.com H1 thread : viewtopic.php?f=38&t=68283 . Is there any advice please Re: theatre room sliding door 6Jun 19, 2014 10:00 pm Find out how much it will cost extra for the wall and door to go in to it, although that'll be really pricey getting a project builder to install it. You would probably be better off waiting until after handover, and getting it done by your own tradies (chippy, plasterer). Even then it won't be cheap. Re: theatre room sliding door 7Jun 19, 2014 11:37 pm We've chopped & changed with walls added & removed like this, with our project-builder house; only a few hundred for walls. I doubt the cost of the extra wall would be significant compared to the cost of the house overall. Big double sliding doors can be exxy though, could be a few thousand extra if you want to have an opening over a couple of metres. Re: theatre room sliding door 8Jun 19, 2014 11:49 pm Generally in pre-start builder allows to put extra doors without charging variation fees. Just tell them to add a double door without talking about additional wall. Cost of doing it will be much higher after handover if you want additional wall. Better to pay variation fees if builder is not bulging. Thank you so much for advice , We will try our best to ask for doors but not sure they will do it or not finger cross , and I know to have sliding doors like above it's too costy , Does any one know how much roughly it will cost to have sliding door , in case if builder say no for wall n doors. This place makes them to order: http://www.shoji.com.au/ Whzzz28 thank you so much for that Re: theatre room sliding door 16Jun 20, 2014 3:55 pm your sliding doors should be solid wood. The doors depicted in the photo will leak sound bigtime. Our builder charged us $1,393 to add a double sliding solid door (2x 2040mm x 820mm - 1.64 wide) in a space that was previously hollow. If you used laminate glass or double glazing it should sound proof it somewhat, but laminate glass is probably going to add 30% more, whreas double glazing will add maybe 50-100% more to the cost. Re: theatre room sliding door 17Jun 20, 2014 8:48 pm Could always use curtains, I think some fabric can have extra lining added to dampen the sound Re: theatre room sliding door 18Jun 21, 2014 12:24 am WHy wait til prestart, get the changes made to teh plan before prestart and ask for what it will cost. Shifting a wall or even adding a wall will not cost that much overall. FYI, sliding doors are not great at sealing and they are generally big glass panels which are not the best for sound as they will vibrate. Sometimes you cannot get away from having them though. Does it make any difference if the plan gone to council ? I’m in a similar position except I’m after sliding 3 stacking doors.
