Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Aveling in Serpentine 21Aug 28, 2014 9:13 pm Ooh nice! thought the kitchen bench was familiar it is what we have chosen for ours too Your selections are very close to ours except we have the darker in the bathrooms and lighter in the kitchen/pantry/laundry, the tile are petty close too Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66620 Re: Building with Aveling in Serpentine 22Sep 17, 2014 11:49 am Our latest update: So far we have not heard from the Builder since around 18 Aug. that is when we reported the incorrect tiling in the bathrooms. We were informed that the site manager will be informed of the mistake. So far we have not heard a thing back from them. We have learned through the fireplace company (not the builder) that the house will be ready for handover by the end of this week and they are just finishing off their installation. Again, we have heard nothing from the builder since mid Aug. Very disappointing. We had a look at the house last week and nothing has been done to rectify the tiles and other errors we pointed out in early August. We can see that we are going to have some problems with the builder once they finally decide to communicate with us. They must think that if they ignore us enough, we will just give up on chasing mistakes. We are not sure if they can or will rectify the tiles at this point but will not accept it without (yet another) fight. Looking forward to the house being finished so we do not have to deal with Aveling ever again (except for post build inspections). In all it has been a very stressful and disappointing experience building with them. The quality of the house looks fine, but the customer service (or lack of) was shocking to say the least. Re: Building with Aveling in Serpentine 23Sep 17, 2014 11:53 am We reported the rubbish to the Shire Ranger who inspected the site, took photo's and informed the builder of their requirement to clean up the rubbish. Aveling stated that they would have it cleaned up within the week. We have inspected it since only to find that they have moved a few boxes out of the water drain but have left most of it still in there which is causing the drain to dam and not allow for the water to run off. This is going to delay our retaining wall as the drain needs to be dry before they can commence work. We will not be accepting handover until they have cleaned the area properly. Once again, very disappointing that we have to chase the builder to sort this matter out. Re: Building with Aveling in Serpentine 24Sep 17, 2014 10:54 pm sorry to hear the rubbish and tile issues are dragging on Ginga, heres hoping they get sorted for you promptly and your handover will be everything you hoped for. Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66620 Re: Building with Aveling in Serpentine 25Sep 30, 2014 11:48 am We have an update on our build: We have been sent our final invoices from the accounts department on 24 Sep. This is the first contact the builder has made with us since 18 Aug. The letter sent by the builder stated that the build is complete and our CLO will contact us soon to arrange a handover inspection. So far, we have not heard a thing from our CLO. I can't say that I am surprised really. They have now wasted another week by not contacting us to arrange the inspection. We had a look at the house two days after we were sent the final invoices and guess what? they have not made any attempt to rectify the incorrect tiling. Again that does not surprise us at all. The council ranger inspected the property last week after they contacted the builder to clean up their rubbish. They were just as disappointed as us to find that Aveling had only cleared some of the rubbish with their name on it and left the rest. They don't think they have enough evidence to issue an infringement for the illegal dumping to Aveling. Our last option may be to clear the rubbish from the drain ourselves and place it within 1.5 metres of the house prior to handover, that way they are 'contracted' to remove it. The environmental ethics of Aveling is disgraceful. When we finally get a handover inspection arranged, it should be interesting. Unfortunately, as with all of our build so far we do not have much power to withhold payment until they rectify their mistakes as they have made it clear that if we do not make the payment in time we will be financially penalised. You have to love the consumer rights in the building process. Fingers crossed it will be all sorted without too much conflict and the need to engage the building commission. Re: Building with Aveling in Serpentine 26Oct 18, 2014 9:46 am Hey Ginga how has everything going any luck rectifying the tiling issues? Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66620 Re: Building with Aveling in Serpentine 27Dec 08, 2014 11:58 pm Hey Speedway, Sorry about the delay. Have been busy with moving houses. We are finally in the house. Moved in last week. Got the tiling sorted before we moved in. Got most of the issues sorted eventually. Painted the inside of the house ourselves before the flooring went in. It wasnt as painful as i thought it was going to be. And we are happy with the final finish. The retaining has been done and the fencing is just about finished for the sides and back at least. Getting turf this wednesday which will be nice. Help keep some of the sand out of the house and cool the house down for the xmas period. How is your build going? Re: Building with Aveling in Serpentine 28Dec 09, 2014 10:14 pm We have just had cabinets and bench tops put in I think they are pushing to have us handed over for January (we asked to be in before the new school year starts) see how we go for that time line tiler is waiting to start as we speak not sure how long he will take but it is exciting Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66620 Thanks for your reply.
