Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 11342Jun 28, 2018 10:03 am IamSAM SejaeD Stukip What's the consensus on having data points terminating in garage as per standard, versus moving to elsewhere in house eg ground floor linen. Would mean modem is out of garage and given is sensitive electrical equipment, makes sense to me. I don't understand why WH Connect all to garage. Where have you all moved yours? They terminate them inside the garage as its the cheapest option for them. You will need your NBN connection in the garage but you will need a variation for additional cabling to a central point inside your house for your router Continuing on the variation suggested by SejaeD - Run 1 or 2 data cables from NBN box located in garage to a point of your choice like an IT nook. Here you can have 2 patch panels (i) one to terminate the cables from garage and (ii) to terminate cables from other data points from your house. The router, switch and other other equipment can be located at this IT nook. Remember that NBN box in garage also has connections for your phone lines and the variation mentioned above does not cater to those. The phone points in your house can directly terminate at the NBN box in garage. They also wont install a patch panel for you, they simply will terminate all cables with the plate at the wall - unless that has changed since we built. Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 11343Jun 28, 2018 1:41 pm Jordann ASJ1981 As the topic is about home cabling, i may as well ask now... lol... We have Sentinel doing the installation of cabling for 5 speaker surround system in the home theater room. The placement of such, we have left it up to them to position - three at the front and two at the back of the room. We haven't given this much thought yet, but i am just wondering where everyone is getting their speakers from? What are your recommendations, i am taking notes We also considered speakers in the Alfresco but didn't include this. How hard is it to install speakers in Alfresco after handover? We thought with so many really good Bluetooth and wireless gadgets out there in the market, we are sure to find outdoor speakers down the track. My go to hi fi store is Eastwood Hifi (they are in Dural now), so drop in and demo some speakers. Pretty good prices and friendly bunch of guys. My HT is running Paradigm speakers and sub (5.1) but probably best to drop into the store and have a listen yourself with all the different range of speakers they have. How good something sounds is kind of different with every person. Best to do the speaker cables for the alfresco during the build if its a double but even with a single it's a bit tight in those areas. Another vote for Eastwood Hifi, or Lifestyle Store in Northmead. Definitely one of those things where you want to make some time to get a proper demonstration of the speakers (ie not at JBHifi in the middle of a noisy store). Everyone has a very different perception of what sounds good. Head in with a budget in mind and they should be able to make recommendations and give you proper demos of the speakers. Don’t be afraid to walk afterwards to do your research and check prices too. I picked up our speakers at Lifestyle Store on Monday - saved about $300 over their shelf price because they matched an online price from a Melb store. I spent about 20 minutes listening to different speakers and doing blind testing where they would flick the sound between 2 sets of speakers so I could nail down which ones I liked better. We’ve ended up with Q Acoustics 3020/3090 5.0 setup with a Yamaha RX-V683 receiver, and we’re recycling our old subwoofer from our old system. I am getting very close as well, PCI 9th of July. Just a question whether you guys have an independent inspector for the final inspection stage?? is it worth it? I have seen reports of those inspectors and mostly only point out cosmetic items.. really dont wanna spend another $700 for an inspector if I can avoid it. We didn’t and there have been a few things pop up post handover that we didn’t pick up on,that I think an inspector would have. Best to have as many things rectified as possible before handover. I think there are always going to be some issues after handover, and we haven’t been through maintenance yet so I’m hopeful we will be 100% happy with the house after that. The biggest issues (IMO) are that our stacker doors are so out of line we haven’t been able to get screen doors installed, when slid across they fall out, and that water doesn’t drain towards the drain on our balcony. Lots of other little things that will be easily rectified at maintenance. I have seen reports of those inspectors and mostly only point out cosmetic items.. really dont wanna spend another $700 for an inspector if I can avoid it. It really depends on the build.. We got an inspector and few things were picked up that was non-compliant. eg; Balcony weep holes were covered or not cut enough by tilers. Door frame were crooked. Sliding door frame was bent and therefore could not close properly. Places where tiler should have tiled but just left a gap. It's probably better for piece of mind since I'm paying this much money for the house. We’re in week 13 now and our roof and render were done this week. Eaves are due to go on this week and our cladding is on site too. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We also had a call from a consultant at Canvas Quarter this week because the wall lights we had planned in our main bathroom don’t meet code (these were the consultant’s suggestion when we did electrical because we couldn’t have pendant lights in the bathroom). Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Wisdom’s only options were either move them around the corner or delete them when they spoke to my husband. I had a look over our plans that night and Wisdom agreed the next day to us shuffling our lights around the different bathrooms so now we have downlights in the main bathroom and the wall lights will go over our ensuite vanity so we can install these lights after handover.
