Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 2446Aug 20, 2016 9:52 am Ok see if this works! Actually I cannot believe i haven't taken any since the garage door has gone in! I will try and take one with that done over the weekend. Also with the bricks, we had really good bricks, i was surprised with some of the bricks that they threw away. The were really picky with what they used which was good. http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/ad114/lour3/IMG_0373_zpsem7nt71b.jpg http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/ad114/lour3/IMG_0372_zpsrjjkdmx8.jpg http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/ad114/lour3/IMG_0340_zpspu4q0ccw.jpg http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/ad114/lour3/IMG_1673_zpswnbiklx2.jpg http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/ad114/lour3/IMG_1669_zpsiau3pg6l.jpg Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 2447Aug 20, 2016 10:03 am LouR Our landscape quote came in at over 80k, the driveway and additional concreting we wanted to do was 8k over the nearest quote and 11k over the cheapest needless to say we did what Ms Jovi did and got them to do retaining walls to the side of the house that access was going to be tricky with and got them to semi level the bank yard - it was supposed to level it but my idea of level and theirs is obviously different. In regards to the colour selection, prior to our appointments (probably over a month) we went up to Bunnings and bought 5 particle boards that were 500 x 1000 & started picking colours we liked and painted a fake skirting and then a big section of wall colour. We ended up with around 3 that we liked then kept moving them around the house for different times of day etc - and to see if we really liked it. I found having a big section really helped me visualise it. Then when we made our selection that board came with us everywhere. I felt like an idiot walking into the tile, kitchen and colours place with it but who cares - i am never going to see any of them again and it really helped us and the consultants as they could see what we were trying to achieve. I also got nearly every sample of ceaserstone and laminex and had it stuck on our kitchen wall so that we looked at it every day before we figured out what we wanted. I didn't want it to be a trendy decision but something that we were going to love for years. We have gone with PGH Espresso, Matt also has a topic on his build and he used those bricks so you can see those. He used monument windows so you can get an idea of the dark brick and dark window, we used surfmist so you can get an idea of dark bricks and light windows. My only concern with having the dark windows was that it would also be dark on the inside which is what i didn't want. If you go to PGH they will give you a list of finished builds and you can drive around and take a look at those. That really helped us too. I will try and upload pics again, i am crap at this and usually get my hubby to do this. We have finally been given a PC date so we will be in soon and this will finally be over Don't know how Mrs Lamas could do it again, I don't think we could. Haha funny you should say that. 7 years ago I waltzed into wisdom and said "mark my words, I will NEVER build again!" (It was more headaches with the bank and brokers etc than wisdom!!!) and they said "Mark my words, you'll be back". For 6 years I would always go check out their new displays as they opened and it was always my original sales guy jumping between the houses as they opened in the hills. Finally he pulled me up on it and said "for someone never building again you spend an awful lot of time in display homes..Come see me when you buy your block". Dec 2014 I took my now-husband to see the majestic at the ponds (he works in real estate so actually loves looking at houses!) The same guy was there and he said "so wheres the block?" And I very sheepishly admitted "kellyville. We are negotiating the price at the moment." Hahaha time heals all wounds!!!!! Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 2448Aug 20, 2016 10:52 am Kirst10 amf139 Rocchet Thank you mrsllamas. I think paint and bricks are going to be our biggest hurdles for decisions. Did anyone take paint samples to tile shop? I'm worried the paint tone won't work with the tile.....but don't want to look like a weirdo haha Yes, I took my paint samples with me to ensure I got the right tone. It's certainly not frowned upon. I asked the lady from DiLorenzo for her opinion too. We are just recovering from getting our Provisional Allowance for Landscaping from Wisdom... over $80K. Who pays $18K for a driveway?? Their landscaping is ridiculous! We got a $60k quote back!!!! Obviously that won't be happening! I have cousin who's a landscaper and a husband who's a quick learner! I'm sure they can get it done with the promise of a drink and good dinner afterwards?! I remember telling the hubby to have a guess when we got our quote back...I had to keep saying higher, higher... Lol Yeah we also got a quote of $54k!!!! getting them to do the driveway only. Building Washington 29, Avanti Facade. I think I'm going for PGH espresso with surfmist too did you have any rendering done? And was ur entrance door an upgrade?? Good idea to get the boards from Bunnings I'm going to try doing that today... Those quotes are ridiculously high... We too will be doing the retaining walls only. We might do the driveway later then?? Any recommendations on people who do driveways? Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 2451Aug 20, 2016 12:25 pm gfernz On a lighter note, it looks like all of you asked for swimming pool quotes because generally it would cost around the 50k mark to put in a pool!!!! You would think so wouldn't you!! We are putting one in but not letting wisdom get that job!!! I think my pool, landscaping and fencing will come in under what wisdom's quoted us just for landscaping Building Wisdom Homes Serenity 31 Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 2452Aug 20, 2016 2:34 pm Rocchet Wow amf139 that's a big one. I was anticipating them being more expensive with the driveway but am wondering if it's still worth doing through them utilising the voucher. We can't move in until driveway is done according to estate guidelines so want it done asap. Are you building new or knock down? We are doing a knock down. We wanted the driveway done before we moved, but it may be in the weeks after, I will call the crew who did our driveway for Eden Brae, they were fantastic. The list of "doing after handover" is growing! Manhattan 52 Scrape 8/11/17 Slab 16/11/17 Handover 7/12/18 Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 2453Aug 20, 2016 8:27 pm We aren't getting any rendering done. We are had issues with the corbel at the front and one of the options they suggested was rendering but we have had a rendered home for 15 yrs so wanted something different. Door is the one that is part of the package (we signed up June 14 so don't know if it is still the one everyone gets or not). We getting it stained in Black Japan and it needs more coats. The only thing we changed was the glass to translucent. We have really struggled to get people out to quote for the driveway, we did a KDR and before the house was gone I had 3 guys come out but although i have chased people I have only had 1 person who came out actually send me a quote recently (it was fairly similar to what i had already received). Our council only allows us to use certain concreters to do the set back and cross-over so we have our hands tied in who we can use unfortunately. ( I have rung over 15 companies to get 1 quote so far). That's so funny I was thinking tonight from reading these forums and going in my mind 'yep I know what he's talking about, yep I know the pain she's going through' and then I thought, with the experience and knowledge you get from your first build, it would be a shame not to do it all again some time later in life. The 2nd time round would be so much better cos you'd know exactly how to navigate the process. I reckon 2nd timers are the builders worst nightmares Wisdom Homes Abode 27 KDRB - Inner West Sydney https://wisdomhomesabode27.wordpress.com/ Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 2455Aug 20, 2016 11:08 pm ShuddaBeenATradie MrsLlamas2016 Haha funny you should say that. 7 years ago I waltzed into wisdom and said "mark my words, I will NEVER build again!" I reckon 2nd timers are the builders worst nightmares Oh it's a million times easier- ignoring the painful time delays I've actually loved it. I have now corrected everything I hated in my old house and I've gone in with a much more realistic view of delays and timeframes. Way less stress and no tears this time around!!! Mind you, the process is COMPLETELY different to 2009, and a lot more paper! My only hesitation in doing it a 3rd time would be dealing with unregistered land. Waiting for that to register has been the worst of it. Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 2457Aug 21, 2016 7:36 pm hashem2k3 Fences have gone up on our land 😊😊😊 Great news!! Hopefully we're not far behind! Although KDR is a bit of a longer process. Having said that, we had our post demo inspection last week and our site was marked good to go! Peg out is tomorrow!!
