Just got to get my shovels out of storage!! The installer mentioned 600mm depth, does that sound right?
Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 1728Apr 14, 2016 10:40 am I didn't think of doing the butlers pantry after, do you run the risk of the ceaserstone being in a different batch and colour? (don't know if that makes a difference or not). You will still need to get them to allow for the plumbing in your slab even if you are thinking of doing it post as well. We had a provision of 12k that wasn't even close thanks to the BP but will be worth it. (i hope!) Hi Peter, I have no idea in regards to the upgrade though we did find that upgrading from the standard to deluxe in the bathroom and laundry was really cheap - i thought that they had made an error but i think she said something like our laundry & bathrooms could all be cut from the same slab so that made it cheaper. We are doing a stone mantle for our fireplace and the cost in price to upgrade was deluxe range - 147, premium 831 and super natural 2852 Hope that helps cheers Lou Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 1729Apr 14, 2016 10:54 am Yes, if we do the Butlers Pantry afterwards (or at least part thereof), we will still have to have to do the plumbing provisions. Having the stone in different batches is definitely a downside. It really comes down to how much of a difference Wisdom's pricing will be to external quotes. Hopefully we can get a few quotes when the plans come through and see how they compare. It would be much easier (and nicer) to have Wisdom do it all, but as we know we usually have to make sacrifices along this journey. Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 1730Apr 14, 2016 11:14 am Sorry, another quick question if I may in relation to security. The alarm system that Wisdom provides in their inclusions, are people finding they need to upgrade this, or is it generally sufficient? Has anyone installed security cameras through Wisdom, or would these be better off being done post build? I would assume that electrical connection provisions would still be done during the build. Thanks, Oz Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 1731Apr 14, 2016 11:42 am Hi Oz, We are building the Ambassador and our Butler's pantry fit out was included. It really depends on whether yours is classified as a walk in pantry or butlers. The kitchen company will have the standard design/fitout so you can always check with them or ask Wisdom if they can tell you the standard inclusions. Our standard butler's consisted of the sink, 3 cupboards, a set of drawers (in laminate) and 20mm caesarstone. The 40mm stone inclusion as part of the Prestige inclusions only applies to the kitchen itself and not to the butler's bench top. We are are upgrading the butler's with overhead cupboards in lamiwood spanning the butler's (~2m) for $1600 and also upgrading the bench top to 40mm stone. The price for this in the deluxe range was $249 however we have chosen a supernatural range colour (London Grey) so this is costing us $1500 for 40mm. Re kitchen stone upgrades, it really depends on the addition of waterfalls etc, but I can give you an idea based on what we have selected. Upgrading to 40mm in the deluxe range was $750, however for supernatural which we have chosen it is a whopping $3200. We had already included this in our PA though, as we fell in love with the kitchen design on display and this is one thing we weren't going to compromise on. We are also having the thick 80mm raised breakfast bar but if I tell you the cost of that in supernatural you will fall off your chair! Upgrading the stone to the deluxe range in the bathrooms was inexpensive in comparison - between $45-$90 depending on size. We actually found the appointment process fun and stress free, although the service at DiLorenzo could've been better. We were fortunate to have Knebel for our kitchen and cabinetry and our designer was brilliant. We also had our appointments as per the new process, so kitchen and tile was done after we accepted tender (prior to contract signing) and landscape, electrical and tile were done after. Good luck with it all Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 1732Apr 14, 2016 2:42 pm Hi msjovi, Thanks for taking the time to respond, really appreciate the informative post. Just confirmed with Wisdom what we suspected - the Butlers Pantry in the Manhattan just has the shelving as inclusions, so now feeling the pain..... We will have two waterfall edges in the Kitchen, so am assuming that we will be in for a similar cost for this upgrade. Just thinking about an 80mm upgrade in Supernatural has made me fall off my chair.... (but I'm positive it will be well worth it when completed) Its good hearing that upgrades to the deluxe range are far more reasonable. Also good to hear that what Wisdom have told me they are actually practising in regards to the appointments. I think its a win for buyers knowing the pricing for these appointment upgrades before signing off on the contract, as there is still a reasonable out (losing your $6k) if these appointments don't go well. Reading back through past posts, are you having any luck with council yet? Oz Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 1733Apr 14, 2016 3:12 pm No problem Oz, glad to help. Even though you'll know your pricing for kitchen and flooring upgrades prior to signing contracts (provided these are given to you by Knebel/Timpelle and DiLorenzo before contract signing as was the case with us) these amounts will still not appear in your fixed price contract. The PAs will remain until you get your end panel later on at the end of the admin process which will then incorporate all your variations. So just keep that in mind. Re council, our neighbour notification period ends tomorrow. I just called them today and we have had no objections so hopefully none come through in the next couple of days. I will be calling every week for an update though and pushing as much as I can! Is yours a KDR or new estate build? Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 1734Apr 14, 2016 3:25 pm Yes, good point re pricing in Contract. My commentary was more that we know what we are up for in costs from these appointments prior to signing the contract, just a bit more peace of mind. Hopefully no objections.....no more holdups for you... Thankfully ours is new estate build. Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 1735Apr 14, 2016 5:39 pm Hi Oz, Hubby works with some pretty techie guys who took a look at the alarm system. They thought that the alarm system was good but said that the upgraded version of it was better and it had the capacity to add more slots to it down the track if required (i have no idea what that means - just asked him why we upgraded it and that is what he said) - it was $180 to upgrade. We were initially looking to get a door strike but seriously it was so painful trying to get them to understand what we wanted that we didn't end up proceeding with it - it was over the top pricing wise too. Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 1737Apr 14, 2016 5:52 pm Hi LouR, Thanks for alarm advice. Upgrade price sounds reasonable. You don't happen to know the brand/model of alarm that they offer? (sorry for being so demanding) Your last paragraph does not surprise me at all....the joys of building. Oz. Thanks, Oz Hi Oz, We didn't upgrade the alarm system itself but we did update the sensors to be pet friendly. Also in the standard alarm system the doors are not alarmed which I would have asked for if I had realised. On a more basic security issue we upgraded the door from the garage to the house to be solid core and upgraded the locks on it too.
