There were also issues like unfinished painting on couple of places, a broken heron block, wrong switch plate. Weather permitting the painting should be finished in the next 2 days. This appointment is on 29 Apr at HO to collect the keys. The question is, is it okay to get the keys provided WH notes down the pending items and agrees to fix it soon? Or should we wait for them to finish all and then get the keys afterwards? Thanks Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 658Apr 26, 2015 7:47 am Greg_K 4. Is it possible to extend the slab in the alfresco area without extending the roof and is this a costly exercise - would it be cheaper to get someone to concrete it once the house is built. Hi Greg We originally asked for this option and Wisdom priced it at $360 p/sqm. The reason this was so high was because it formed part of the main slab. When we got to the tender presentation Wisdom said we'd be better off doing that after handover if we weren't extending the roofline as it would be cheaper. In the end we got a quote to extend the slab and roof over a greater alfresco area. Worked out to be about $850 p/sqm. My recommendation - get it done after handover if you're not extending the roof. We had our kitchen and flooring appointments during the week, didn't realise that tiling allowance didn't allow for: - coloured grout - laying 600mm x 600mm tiles (even if tiles are in included range) - laying mosaic tiles - laying with a smaller space between That's just off the top of my head. Standard carpet underlay is also the lowest quality. My wife also didn't realise that the standard butler's pantry was just shelving. We're getting some extra cabinets put in along with bench preparation area and additional sink & fridge space. Having gone through a kitchen reno at our last house I would expect to get it for about $5k-$6k (basic cabinets, 20mm stone bench, sink, tap and trades). Am expecting it to be closer to $10k though. All in all though, both appointments went about as well as can be expected. Consultants at both Timpelle and Di Lorenzo were excellent, especially Sean at Timpelle. Very patient and thorough. Hugely exhausting day but in the end we got as many options as possible so we can just tick them off based on cost now vs ease of upgrading later. Getting a hardwood floor quote as well. Expecting about a $30-$40 p/sqm difference in price between what's available open market compared to through DiLorenzo but, as the eternal optimist, am hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Both my wife and I prefer timber to tiles, but gee whiz there's a massive price difference between the two. Just on the matter of base prices vs upgrades, you do start to wonder when you're going through these appointments just what you get for the base price! Our base price was $404k. If we proceed with every upgrade we've either got a price on, or exhaust the PA built in (both Wisdom's and my own based on research), we'll be closer to $600k. We will end up with a very nice house (well we certainly hope so!) but we're definitely looking at it going where have all these additional costs come from! Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 659Apr 26, 2015 3:02 pm Hey azza25, Great info for the appointments, we have three appointments over the next couple of weeks to complete, stairs, kitchen and carpets/tiles, so your info is very timely indeed. Wow, we have to pay to lay 600 x 600 tiles? Even if they''re in range! Man, I was just thinking that tender + variations + appointments = 2 minute noodles for dinner for the next year! Yes, I totally agree with you, everything is certainly adding up and we already have considered cost now vs ease of doing it later. We will have alot of "Projects" to work on after we move in. Basically, have a list of things to work on, have a costing next to each one, then save money and once there's enough, get the job done, then move on through the list. That's the best way to chip away at it, I think! In relation to the hardwood floor, did you use the "timber look flooring"option with Di Lorenzo? We are thinking to do this upstairs only, and have ceramic tiles downstairs except for carpet in the media room, and then carpet on the stairs. Do you think it would look weird having carpets on the stairs in the middle of the tiles and timber look? Or is this pretty standard? Also, you say that Timpelle were good, I'm glad to hear that, am trying to get feedback on them vs knebel. Can someone please offer some advice? Im DESPERATE. Because I'm completely and utterly exhausted. How long are variations taking with other companies at the moment?
