So simple but very elegant. Quick question, i'd love to know how you keep your kids from destroying your lovely collection of home magazines. I've had to put mine back in to boxes Re: The Story of Stormy's Castle.**SANTA ARRIVED EARLY!** 1466Dec 23, 2009 8:13 am tc2000 Hi Stormy, OOooo, Santa did come early for you delivering the lovely side and coffee table for your family room Love it! I saw it and I thought "nautical", Hamptons (off the East Coast of USA), seaside... Thanks tc! Yes, my place is a bit of a mix between Hamptons, English Country and French Prov, but totally screams 'me', and that's what decorating a home should be all about! Now I need to get rid of the really old baltic pine book cases...one day! -Rebekah- They're gorgeous. So simple but very elegant. Quick question, i'd love to know how you keep your kids from destroying your lovely collection of home magazines. I've had to put mine back in to boxes Thanks Rebekah! My home mags usually live on a bookcase, so this is the first time on a coffee table. I don't think they've noticed them yet! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! The new white coffee tables go so well the "your style" I think that they match in really well. And they are a nice design. I can certainly understand why you want the pine book cases to go. Not the same look at all. Have a lovely Christmas. I've had to put mine back in to boxes /quote] My policy with my kids (6 and 3 yrs old) has always been:- - mummy's and daddy's things can only be touched by us. - daddy's study is his room and not their room. So if he's not in, they don't go in. - the kitchen is my office so they can't go in at all. It's pretty much worked since day 1 of implementing these rules (from babyhood). I have heaps of home decor magazines and so far these have escaped kiddy tearing and grafitti ! phew! I also can't wait to get to the decorating aspects of the house when it's all built. I'm now thinking of ways to bring in more light into the house, especially the downstairs cos' we don't get much sunlight at all and the house is looking dark and gloomy. Our SS has confirmed our suspicion that even after plastering is done, it's not going to be any brighter. For the moment, we're thinking of a sky light for the meals area at the rear of the house (cos' there isn't anything above it). My next problem is the front living room. Had I known, it would be so dark, I would have changed the side windows from a slim horizontal window to a bigger vertical window. And our stairwell doesn't have a window too (and we shouldve gone for one there. I'll probably put a mirror there and hope that I can reflect some light from the upstairs living area which only has a dwarf wall). anyway, have a great time at Christmas! One year since site start. 1474Feb 04, 2010 1:18 pm Well, today marks the one year anniversary of our cut and fill, and official site start. I can't believe it's gone so quickly and we have now been in the house for about 5 months! Not much has changed, because unpacking took time, then Christmas and the school holidays got in the way! There are lots of plans for this year, though! * White plantation shutters * Built-in desk in study * Front fence * Driveway * Landscaping and water tank * Decking to alfresco * Exterior light fittings (when I find the perfect ones!) ...in no particular order! Since I last posted, I have a door bell, speakers and volume control in the alfresco (still to install in the lounge room), and a few extra pics up on the wall. The garage is a little tidier, but only one car can still fit in (still have to organise a few boxes...), and I'm madly cleaning and chucking out toys after the school holidays! Here is the newest picture on the wall in the hallway opposite the garage entrance door: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ...and one I created to put in the powder room: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Once I've finished tidying, I'll post some more interior pics. Thanks to everyone who supported me through the last year and the build process. I can safely say all the dramas and frustrations have completely dissappeared! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... You have great taste and a good eye for detail that gives your home that extra special touch! BTW, are your magazines still stacked as neatly on your coffee table shelf since you posted the reveal pic of your early Xmas pressie? Landscaping will be fairly formal, with drought tolerant plants. As much as I would love English Box...it ain't going to happen! A simplified "Stormy's take" on a French Parterre garden using only white flowers. I have a few ideas in mind, just have to decide on the front fence options... tc2000 Happy 1st anniversary Next year, you can have a 2nd anniversary party in your house cos' by then everything would have been completed (as in exterior and interior stuff). You have great taste and a good eye for detail that gives your home that extra special touch! BTW, are your magazines still stacked as neatly on your coffee table shelf since you posted the reveal pic of your early Xmas pressie? I'd like to be able to say that this time next year it will all be done, but I don't think it will. The garden will take the longest as I'm not planting anything until I have a 'good' soil again. It's naturally sandy, and now full of builders rubble, so it will take a while to fix that before I plant anything....unfortunately. Not sure I can afford the Dining suite I have my eyes on either... The magazines mostly stay nicely stacked. The kids know I hate them touching them and if the piles get messy, they have to tidy them! Ari Its been a whole year? Where on earth has that time gone? Is the house everything you imagined back then? Gone quick, hasn't it! I'll probaly sum up the house after we have been living in it for a year (this Sept), so far, so good!! Aaron & Erin Congratulations on your first anniversary! Thanks Erin! Thanks Kek! I'm looking forward to seeing your finished artwork of the retro dresses when you get around to it!
