I'm still beaming, but we are very busy and exhausted! Yesterday we battled the wind and 'attempted' to clean out the garage floor to seal it, but the bloody wind kept on blowing everything back in again. We scrubbed every last bit of mortar, plaster, dirt and grime off the floor and will hopefully put the first coat of sealer on today. We did lots of research on which was the best product to use, and were close to using the Berger Jet Dry, but the floor needed to be acid etched before application, so we went to 'Concreters Warehouse' and had a chat to them about what they suggested. We have gone with a 'Staseal Premium' grey semi gloss sealer which does not require acid etching as a solvent is put in with the first coat of sealer and applied with a stiff broom. http://www.concreterswarehouse.com.au/p ... emium-10lt I'll let you know how it goes! Just have to remember NOT to drive on it for 7 days after the 2nd coat with hot tyres, as that can lift it. The Redi Shades are mostly out of their packets and marked where to cut, but I havent had a chance to that either! Today, hopefully!! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! We began to install the Redi Shades today (all 31 of them!), and I'm surprised at just how good they look for a $6 product! So much better than different coloured sheets on every window! The kids loved running around today with the offcuts! . I also spotted my Son dancing around with one of the plastic china men's hats lamp shades on his head (they were the very first thing I removed, along with the compact fluoros!) Can't wait to get my chandelier up in the dining! It will then feel like a 'real' house with floorboards and carpet. Hopefully it won't be as 'echo-ey' either! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! When will you get the proper window coverings? Great to hear that handover went smoothly and I'm looking forward to seeing more pics as you settle in. Hi Sorry for my ignorance but can you please explain the terms double plank and single plank as i am also getting hardwood floors for my house (boral black butt pre finished) Can you please make any furhter suggestions for points to be considered while choosing the floor boards and the best underlays Re: The Story of Stormy's Castle.**HANDOVER 4pm TODAY!!!!** 1296Sep 14, 2009 12:27 pm Hi Throney, Love your Redishades! You're probably written something about this previously but where did you get them from? (For the life of me, my swiss cheese memory is not recalling much theses days!) Why do builders supply the house with the ugliest and most useless light shades ever? They should just dispense with them and not bother! p.s. pemulwyhouse - single plank and double plank of floorboards refers to the width of the wood strips. Depending on the manufacturer, single plank can be anything up to 8-10cm. The double plank width floor boards are often used in display homes - it creates a much wider look as well. It's also more expensive to get double plank floorboards. Than there's also the thickness of the floorboards to consider and this is also down to your budget. Again, depending on the manufacturer, these can vary from 2mm to 4mm (or more) in thickness. The thicker it is, the more times you can re-sand it in the future I've been told. I've also been told the floorboards that aren't so thick can last you up to 5-7 years without the need to re-sand. The underlay is very much like chosing underlay for your carpet. The better the underlay, the more expensive it is!!! We're having UTF floorboards in our house and our costs (via the builders) came up to $8k for the whole of the downstairs (except for the living room which will be carpet). This isn't s bad given that the builders often have a mark-up and I'd gotten an independant quote from a flooring company which had almost the same costs all up (incl labour installation) and actually, we weren't asked by our colour consultant what sort of underlay we wanted....(blame it on my swiss cheese memory....huge holes! ) Building thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22917 27.07.09 Contract signed. 08.09.09 Site scraped. 18.09.09 Slab completed! 23.11.09 Bricking done 09.03.10 - Tiling 15.04.10 PCI 01.05.10 Handover Re: The Story of Stormy's Castle.**HANDOVER 4pm TODAY!!!!** 1297Sep 14, 2009 12:33 pm congrats on handover stormy! do the redishades come from bunnings? 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: The Story of Stormy's Castle.**HANDOVER 4pm TODAY!!!!** 1298Sep 15, 2009 5:38 pm Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Your lonely little pic Stormy is looking great - adore your staircase especially the handrail ....we'll just have to be patient & wait for the rest to trickle through, I guess . I am totally stuffed, and I haven't started moving yet! The Telstra trenching was done yesterday, and a Tech came out today to connect...can't believe how quick it was!! I expected to wait for about 6 weeks! Just have to find the phopnes in storage and we're done! The flooring started today too, and looks fabulous so far. While they were doing that I continued with the redi shades (which come from Bunnings! $6 for the smaller size, $7 for the larger), and then decided to attck some of the builders rubble and weeds in the garden to make it look a little more 'lived in'. I'll be digging up bits of old house for many years to come! The garage floor has had 2 coats on now, and will be ready to drive on by the time we move in. We've had lots of visitors so far with lots of 'oohing' and 'arring', and it's not even furnished! I do have some pics, of the beginnings of the floor and the garage, but nothing else has really changed yet, so not much to take photos of. By Friday all of the flooring will have been completed, so it will look different then, and I should have some more pics. I hope to post them soon, but there's lots of TV tonight and I'm totally stuffed... Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!!
