Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Anyone building at Thornton , Penrith 61May 06, 2015 9:47 pm Well we can finally see the finish line, builders walk through inspection this fri, landscaping started, looks like just the turf and plants to complete, really hoping we get a handover date and hoping its not too long! Re: Anyone building at Thornton , Penrith 62May 08, 2015 9:44 pm well what we thought was going to be stressful turned out to be fairly pleasant, the nail that was misnailed will be sorted, the feature tiles in the shower will be redone etc....... hoping to get our keys on mon 25, well thats the pencilled in date according to ss, turned out he was pretty good even after the mid build handover to the new guy, pretty much ok with everything we picked up which so far were just cosmetic but when you pay for a new house you do expect everything to be perfect dont you? Anyway after what has been a stressful time we can see the finish line, dogs going to the daughters house in 2 weeks, then they come home 4 weeks later and hopefully they wont ruin the grass! Re: Anyone building at Thornton , Penrith 63May 15, 2015 4:41 pm Hi All, I haven't posted for a while. I settled in May 2014, started onsite August 2014 and we have just had our ceilings painted and stairs put in! From everyone's experience how much longer do we have? We have a patio in cricketers avenue its closer to lemongrove and we can see the cricketers oval. Our contract was 40 weeks but rain delays have taken us to 53 weeks which is up on the 29th of May. I don't know if I should assume Late June or August? who knows? please help. Steely, where about's are you? Sounds like your build is coming along well. I secured a place August 2013, Settled April 2014, Build started November 2014 and as of May 2015 have slab, frame and maybe half bricked. My contract is also 40 weeks but at a penalty to the builder of $1 a day for being late that does not give much inventive to move things along. I really hope to get in this year. Re: Anyone building at Thornton , Penrith 65May 17, 2015 10:24 am Yes we have the same $1 a day thing. I spoke to him yesterday and he saying that we will be finished end of June. We have waterproofing in and doors delivered so things are happening, he had just moved so slow so far. I can't wait to move in! Re: Anyone building at Thornton , Penrith 66May 25, 2015 8:28 pm Handover and keys this thur, will sleep in thur night and finish moving in fri hopefully! Re: Anyone building at Thornton , Penrith 67Jun 11, 2015 8:50 pm Our land finally settled on 2nd of this month. Just waiting on Approval for construction to be completed. Spoke to our builder yesterday about recent kitchen plans we received. Turns out the bench didn't have an over hang for stools etc. Started to realise how important it is to check over things really well, and question question question everything! Originally I was told i wasn't going to have a spot to put the microwave (built in). Then I see the plans and it does have a spot for a microwave. Just silly little things to check. I did happen to ask what they did with the off cut from the kitchen bench when they put the sink in- they throw it in the bin. The builder is going to arrange a chopping board for me and get it nicely beveled on the edges! No cost! Guess it doesn't hurt to ask. Apparently our land is going to be levelled out by end of next week, with fences going up too. All up so far we are at the 8 month mark from initial deposit to land settlement. With only another 8-9 months to go for the build (give or take). Re: Anyone building at Thornton , Penrith 68Jun 15, 2015 5:46 pm Hi All! Just wondering how long it took for Penrith Council to approve construction for those of you who are are already building? My builder has decided to do a Development Application instead of a CDC which I heard can take up to 8 weeks Follow Our Build Here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75667 Building with Kurrajong Homes in Alumuna Walk Village. Re: Anyone building at Thornton , Penrith 69Jun 17, 2015 8:37 pm For Lily 123456: I wondered this myself and so had a look at the time from Penrith approving the DA to granting the CC and found that for Champion Homes it averaged 120 days and for Rawson Homes it averaged 172 days. I don't think it is the Council that takes the time, it is the private certifier hired by the builder Re: Anyone building at Thornton , Penrith 70Jul 01, 2015 9:32 am Hi all, We just had our electric appt yesterday. We went in thinking we won't spend much and do up to 5k. But we ended up spending 9k. There were lot of mandatory cost which we couldn't avoid and we only just did the basic things. We still have to do lights as we'll.we only got the provisions in the appt. Splitted single zone ducted air to 4 zones. Ours was a two storey, so can't think of going with just one zone for the full home. Got the provision for ducted vaccum. How much did you guys spend on electricals. Re: Anyone building at Thornton , Penrith 71Jul 01, 2015 6:09 pm Hey, I spent an extra $5,000 or so. That was pretty much just down light provisions, extra power points, data and TV points. So still looking at a bit more to buy the actual lights but I can worry about that once its built. I sure adds up quick doesn't it. Re: Anyone building at Thornton , Penrith 72Jul 05, 2015 5:50 pm We spent about $5K, mostly on tiles. Extra powerpoints were minimal cost. The builder has now foreshadowed that they will be charging us an extra $10K for Council approvals. Has anyone come across this charge in Thornton? Re: Anyone building at Thornton , Penrith 73Jul 05, 2015 11:20 pm My place took a while to get through council and changes were needed. The builder took the costs for me. I have not paid any extra over the tender other than upgrades. This is with Firstyle. Re: Anyone building at Thornton , Penrith 74Jul 06, 2015 5:51 pm Thanks Steely21. We are with Champion. They have not been too bad, but as soon as we pointed out a mistake they had made they threatened to charge us more. I am interested to know if anyone else has had to pay Council fees for a standard approval of a Thornton house.
