Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 10, 2014 6:52 pm Hey guys, about to sign off on our final drawings but just thought about wanting to mount a tv on the wall so it is free of cables. do i need extra timber for that? if so how many would I need? I thought the standard frames are 60cm apart and that would be enough? I also requested a pull wire setup to get the wiring process, is that the way to go? cheers Re: Extra timber for wall mount television 2Jun 10, 2014 7:03 pm We too had the same thoughts….. We are mounting a 70" LED onto the wall, the weight is 40kg so we asked the builder to place a few more noggins at a particular height. The TV salesman said if you screw into the timber it will be fine and extra noggins aren't essential. There is also a 32mm internal conduit from behind the TV to 300mm above the flooring so we can feed DVD,HDMI,etc. cables. Re: Extra timber for wall mount television 3Jun 10, 2014 7:08 pm so did you find a tv mount in mind first before you decided where to put the noggins? or is it pretty standard? how much did the extra timer/conduit cost you? Re: Extra timber for wall mount television 4Jun 10, 2014 7:15 pm The TV mounts have plenty of holes and will match up with your studs/noggins, if concerned get a professional to mount your TV for a few dollars. For the conduit , it was $215 including the brushed cover plates (x2). This was roughly 1.5m of conduit. Honestly i could have easily done this myself, but due to OHS laws and building insurance if anything went wrong id be held liable. We mutually agreed with our builder to hire a 3rd Party to do these works. The builder didn't stand to make a dollar on this…just allow the trade on site. Hope this helps Re: Extra timber for wall mount television 5Jun 10, 2014 9:04 pm The builder may install some noggins for you at no additional cost given that they can use timber offcuts. I have mounted TVs using hollow wall anchors in the past but if you are at the build stage, best to prepare now while you can. It is also important to get the conduit run before the walls go up. If what you describe is correct then the brick wall has been dry lined with villa board. That basically means that the villa board is glued to the brick wall with… 3 8311 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15918 |
