Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 03, 2014 10:00 am Hi, So my fiancé and I are building a Rivergum Home down at Seaford Meadows, Adelaide. The build so far has been pretty good, however they have now installed the bath and it seems very dodge to me. The edge of the bath is actually going inside the wall, and once the wall tiles go on, the edge of the bath will be covered even further! I have never seen a bath installed like this, and once i questioned the construction manager, he said that was 'standard'. However when we did our selections for this bathroom, we asked what a standard setup was, and was told it was like the display home. Thanks, Zac Re: Incorrect bath installation? 2Jun 03, 2014 10:30 am not acceptable.. whatever were they thinking?! Perhaps the drain was not installed in the right spot and that was the only way to install it without breaking the slab and rerouting the pipe. Re: Incorrect bath installation? 3Jun 03, 2014 10:36 am i know, right? I'm withholding payment for the internal linings until they move it, as they will require additional gyprock, therefore the internal linings has not been completed.. maybe this will get them to sort it out. Re: Incorrect bath installation? 4Jun 03, 2014 11:00 am If the standard setup is as per display home then I would be showing both pictures. Froma any angle you can see that it is wrong. They may claim it is to suit the bath spout but I would say change the spout as it worked for the display and they should do as requested. Sorry to say but what they have done is amateur hour. Re: Incorrect bath installation? 5Jun 03, 2014 11:24 am I agree with you Zac, in a bath I'm sure you would want to be able to rest your arms on both sides of the tub, and by mounting it in the wall it would no longer be comfortable. Re: Incorrect bath installation? 6Jun 03, 2014 1:51 pm Not even close! Definitely a screw up. Good job for picking up on it before tiling. That would make it even worse. Re: Incorrect bath installation? 7Jun 03, 2014 2:55 pm wow it must be wrong if the bath goes into the wall Re: Incorrect bath installation? 8Jun 03, 2014 7:28 pm I think you will find this is a standard detail used to assist with waterproofing. I agree it doesn't look like the display, and I agree it looks silly, but check the CSR construction manual and I think you'll see this detail. I have seen it done heaps. I have also seen it done like the display pic and might add that while it does look better, the water tends to sit and gather on the ledge. Re: Incorrect bath installation? 10Jun 03, 2014 8:25 pm You can't trust anyone who says "it's standard" with something in a display home- UNLESS you've got it in writing. Re: Incorrect bath installation? 11Jun 03, 2014 9:01 pm So it seems me harassing the builder non stop about it, (and possibly me telling the operations manager that they're not getting their money until its fixed) has paid off.. they are going to change this to the display home setup.. Cheers everyone Re: Incorrect bath installation? 15Jun 04, 2014 1:02 pm Excellent well done! I wouldn't have been able to live with my bath like that either! My build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68002 Re: Incorrect bath installation? 16Jun 05, 2014 9:54 pm I am in a rental that is about 5 yrs old, whilst we are building. Had a look at the bath and it is installed the same way as yours was initially... Well done on getting it the way they told you it would be. Re: Incorrect bath installation? 17Jun 08, 2014 6:35 pm Well done. I've never seen a bath like that before. The edge flush with tiles yes. Underneath tiles never! Happy to have a look if you email me at 1 8086 Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included.
