Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 01, 2014 2:29 pm Hey guys, We've finally signed a building contract after so much negotiation! Our land hopefully titles in November, so fingers cross! Prestart is going to be in Aug/Sept.. And I feel like I know what I want for everything except when it comes to tiles.. I want floor to ceiling tiling.. It will cost us around $1500 and $2500 for main bathroom and ensuite (excluding toilets and laundry).. If we use standard tiles, we wanted to use 200 x 400 tiles.. Has anybody done this? And if so can you please share pictures.. The showroom guy says it's alright for smaller spaces.. But I'm not too sure.. He even said that we should also probably try go for bigger tiles 300 x 600 if we can afford it.. Floor to ceiling tiles beats anything else eighth? No matter what size tiles? Also colour wise.. I really dont know what to do.. Originally I wanted beige on ensuite and grey for main bathroom.. But now that we're doing floor to ceiling, i feel like it's best to do it both the same.. I like a lighter grey colour for both.. But I've also had black in my mind.. Can someone please help me with colours and share pictures please, I'm about to go crazy haha! Also could you share how much it costs you guys too? That would be very much appreciated! Thanks, Issy Building: The Maxum Builder: New Generation Homes Estate: Springtime Estate, Xavier ____________________________ Our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=73924 Re: Questions about Tiles: floor to ceiling, colour combo et 2Jun 01, 2014 2:36 pm We've gone for 200 x 400 tiles floor to ceiling In a horizontal stack to line up with the same 400 x 400 on the floors. We wanted a uniform look so picked the same floor & wall tile, although the wall tile is very glossy and the floor version more Matt for grip. I've seen some in person, and they looked great. I wasn't sure at first either, thought they should be bigger - but If I wanted that tile combo, that's what choice I had, they didn't make a bigger version of the wall tile anyway... After seeing some 200 x 400 wall tiles in a display, I'm happy now. Our tiling hasn't been done yet, so no pictures I can share - try image google search 200 x 400 wall tiles, see what comes up Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66299 Slab: 16/6/14 Frame: 4/7/14 Roof: 22/7/14 Lock Up: 20/8/14 Fixing: 26/8/14 PCI: 9/10/14 Handover: 20/10/14 Re: Questions about Tiles: floor to ceiling, colour combo et 3Jun 01, 2014 11:14 pm If going full height, have you thought about glass splashbacks instead of tiles? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It may not be as expensive as one might think. If going DIY, I think it could be done under 3k (and credit from the builder for tiles ) Just going by the Bunnings price, 600*570 splashbacks for a 2m wide, 2.4m long bathroom (approx. 18 sqm for the walls), the cost would be about 3k. If getting someone to do it for you, it should come under 4k and takes a day after handover. PS: Haven't done myself ; just an idea for a shiny bathroom Re: Questions about Tiles: floor to ceiling, colour combo et 4Jun 02, 2014 1:00 am I'm doing both ensuite and bathroom in charcoal to match. I think we have a different shape on the wall as opposed to the floor but I've actually forgotten. The effect is the same no matter what the shape. I have a picture on my blog of the effect I'm after. I remember it was expensive as we used really good tiles. Maybe 5k for both from memory. I think it looks awesome and can't wait to see it. When I went into national tiles they had a lot of pics from the 'block' tv show. If you check the block website the pictures sh I ill all be there. Re: Questions about Tiles: floor to ceiling, colour combo et 5Jun 02, 2014 7:47 am We have tiles in our wet areas floor to ceiling - and glad we did. Toilets and bathrooms. Less hassle, cleaning, etc. And - it looks great. Floor is bigger but you don't notice the difference. Re: Questions about Tiles: floor to ceiling, colour combo et 6Jun 02, 2014 10:49 pm Deluxes: I agree with you 100% on everything that you've said.. You've given me the confidence to do it.. I did try to google it but it didn't help.. I'm gonna follow your build so I don't miss out when you put the pictures we still have ages to our prestart but oh we'll it just gives me more time to choose As Joannek says, the effect is the same no matter what shape.. Ozlizz I really really love your picture and ideas.. I'm just too scared to handle the responsibility for the tiles.. I'm already responsible for getting our flooring done and kitchen splashback.. Don't think I could handle another thing to do haha.. Saint mike, that's exactly what I'm going for.. I would do our toilets but budget is really overloaded ATM.. It's something I'm willing to sacrifice to pay for something else ;P Thanks for your posts guys.. Much appreciated x Building: The Maxum Builder: New Generation Homes Estate: Springtime Estate, Xavier ____________________________ Our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=73924 Hey all, Hoping for some inspiration for my bathroom laundry combo.
