Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 24, 2014 7:07 am Hi all Just in the process of signing our contract and wanting a raised Theatre floor. I have attached pictures for an idea. Anyone know any good carpenters that may be able to help? I know I can probably to ourselves but would rather just get it done. I would personally place the stairs towards the outer edges as the current arrangement will have you entering right where the sweet spot area would be. The riser should not be left hollow either, look to fill it with bagged dry sand. I suggest that you look as some of the build threads on AVS Forum but be warned it is very addictive. This would give us better options for seating I would think also. Will check out the AV section. Re: Raised Theatre Flooring - Carpenter 5Aug 07, 2014 10:02 pm We are doing the same but I'm getting our joiner to make a couple of draws in the underfloor step so I can store the larger gaming stuff ie air guitars etc ......I know I will be comprising the sound but it's more about a media room than a theatre room <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: Raised Theatre Flooring - Carpenter 8Aug 07, 2014 10:26 pm Just remember that draws will be hollow and may rumble with bass. Normally the riser and steps are actually filled with sand. Rumbles and vibrations will drive you crazy. Re: Raised Theatre Flooring - Carpenter 9Aug 07, 2014 10:53 pm In our case we are using marine ply and carpet with appropriate venting - but it is a very valid point and there is a trade off re acrostics vs practicality <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: Raised Theatre Flooring - Carpenter 10Aug 08, 2014 1:13 am Yes you are right there will always be trade offs. One thought would be to get chairs with storage in the armrests. These can be quite roomy especially if the seating is in a curved arrangement. Easiest way is to try it out and if it is too rumbly then put some sand in it. Also comes down to how far you want to take it really. 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6191 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15908 Hi there, I'm a conplete newbie to this, but I'm looking to put a floor down in my 6x9m shed. It's currently sitting on a 100mm thick concrete perimeter (dirt floor… 0 6467 |
