Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building in Brigadoon (WA) with Summit - Sandpad Pics! 21Oct 23, 2014 10:48 pm And we now have a sand pad! Rumour has it that we may even have a slab by mid next week - I'll believe it when I see it Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Building in Brigadoon (WA) with Summit - SLABBED! 22Nov 03, 2014 10:15 pm Although we missed taking pics of the footings (as the battery on the time-lapse chose that particular point in time to die), we did manage to capture the slab pour. Could have been better if the camera had been mounted higher, but something is better than nothing I reckon! You have an amazing bit of land, what a view!! I have a question, I noticed you are building in a BAL 19 area as are we. We have been told that we cant have a 1200 wide entry door as Corinthian don't make them for BAL 19, only BAL 12.5. Just wondering what your door is and who supplied it so I can do some research? It is just what we are after!!! Looking forward to following your build. Hayley and Stephen Re: Building in Brigadoon (WA) with Summit - SLABBED! 25Nov 07, 2014 4:56 pm Hayley and Stephen We have been told that we cant have a 1200 wide entry door as Corinthian don't make them for BAL 19, only BAL 12.5 Aaaaaaah, the door question! We had an awesome door picked out for sooo long (from an earlier renovation of our current house), however ultimately had to give it up as it didn't meet the BAL spec That said, we were presented with 2 options by the Builder: 1) Corinthian BAL40 bushfire doors - specifically this one http://www.corinthian.com.au/Products/Doors/Entry/Bushfire-BAL-40-Routered-Paint-Glazed/Bushfire-BUSHPG-104 Although the standard size excludes 1200, we were told that a 1200 could be provided (and the website says on the door sizes tab for the above door that "Corinthian can also provide doors to those homes that require custom made solutions to fit specific sizing requirements"). 2) A Toughened Aluminium Glass Door (such as the Jason Benchmark) We ultimately went with the Benchmark as it had the glass look we wanted - The Corinthian BAL40 doors weren't really what we were looking for. Hope this helps! Re: Building in Brigadoon (WA) with Summit - SLABBED! 26Nov 07, 2014 5:25 pm Thanks for that!! Looks like I will have to fight a little harder to get my dream entry door, especially now I know it is possible Re: Building in Brigadoon (WA) with Summit - SLABBED! 27Nov 07, 2014 5:51 pm Yep, I would! Hopefully the price isn't too out of control!! Re: Building in Brigadoon (WA) with Summit - SLABBED! 28Mar 14, 2015 7:41 pm Hi MeandZeph! Hubby and I have been looking at buying land and building up at Brigadoon but keep hesitating as we are so unsure of site costs! I found this forum and see you are well on your way to building up there and would love any information you guys have come across in terms of unseen sight costs. Thank you Steven and Chelsea Re: Building in Brigadoon (WA) with Summit - SLABBED! 29Mar 15, 2015 11:28 am Hi Steve and Chelsea, Very understandable - no point committing to the block if you’re not going to be able to build the house! We had the exact same concerns before making up our mind Unfortunately, there’s no running away from the fact that site works will form a decent chunk of your construction costs up there. That said, from our perspective, the key to reducing these costs is as follows:
Some of the above costs could also be mitigated by looking at pole house construction which removes the need to create a level pad under the foundation - primary cost would then relate to effort to dig the holes for the poles and the subfloor construction. Hope some of this helps! P.S. Your post reminded me that a H1 update on our build is well overdue! I'll get something up later today Re: Building in Brigadoon (WA) with Summit - TIMELAPSE! 30Mar 16, 2015 1:09 pm So after 4 months or so since the slab went down, the brickies have arrived and the bricks are flying up! Looks amazing to see this place coming out of the ground after existing only in our heads and on paper for so long... Below is a link to the timelapse video capturing the progress to date... It's a little shaky as all we had to mount the camera to was a tree (and trees sway in the wind), but its better than nothing! Re: Building in Brigadoon (WA) with Summit - TIMELAPSE! 31Mar 16, 2015 1:55 pm That's awesome! I want to do something similar but it will be only weekly progress as we don't have a camera we can leave up there. Will defintiely be looking up that software to put it all together! Re: Building in Brigadoon (WA) with Summit - TIMELAPSE! 32Mar 16, 2015 8:59 pm Thanks Nikki! Glad the link works - I wasn't 100% sure how to embed the video into the thread! Damn hard to work out how to take decent photo's of it all that make sense to everyone, so we just randomly snapped away and I've tried to describe each one best as I can!
