Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 23, 2014 7:46 pm Hi all Just wondering whether anyone just chose natural mortar colour rather than upgrading to off white and if so are you happy with it? I know the colour can vary depending on depending on location and where the sand comes from but just after a general idea? Re: Mortar colour 3May 24, 2014 9:50 am it depends a lot on your brick colour/texture and type of mortar finish. If off white looks better overall then that's one thing to budget for, as you can't easily change it later If it adds to the appearance it most likely will add significantly to the resale value later on. Re: Mortar colour 5May 24, 2014 11:32 am I wanted off-whiye mortar but was told No by the builder as they cannot guarantee consistency of colour.. So cream it is! Re: Mortar colour 7May 24, 2014 1:23 pm Hmm ... we chose off-white, but I don't think there was an extra cost for it. I really like the contrast between a darker brick & the lighter mortar, but surely that's a personal preference thing? If so, I doubt there's a resale component, it's just about what you want yourself. Our bricks are fairly light (clickety-click if you want a look), so it probably didn't make much difference in our case. Re: Mortar colour 8May 24, 2014 1:25 pm We chose off white mortar but weren't charged any extra for it. But I guess the optional extras on every builder are different. We're paying quite a bit for our house as it is. Re: Mortar colour 9May 24, 2014 2:33 pm Forg Hmm ... we chose off-white, but I don't think there was an extra cost for it. Re: Mortar colour 10May 24, 2014 2:40 pm jillybug i love your brick colour. what's it called? Ooh, thankyou! It's an Austral Bricks brick, Latte from the Urban One range. We were really happy when the first pallets were delivered; we didn't want to spend extra on exterior appearance-related stuff than was already included, we both liked the really smooth finished bricks & for a standard inclusion these were an OK-ish compromise - but Austral seem to have made these bricks smoother than when we were choosing, so we got "better" for no extra cost. Great choice with no extra cost - win - win all round. I am yet to get to brick stage and choose a builder so once I get there I have a name of a brick I like thus far Re: Mortar colour 15May 24, 2014 10:54 pm Vonnie11 Cupcakes and Vetty, is your house built yet and are you happy with the natural/cream mortar? Nah, not built yet! In the Brikmakers showrooms we have visited, the brick displays have the cream mortar, however in their catalogue it has off-white (we chose the dark brick Brindle) Honestly, it doesn't look bad with the cream, I just would've preferred the off-white as it suits our colour scheme better! I guess we'll see how I feel about it once the bricks are up My build thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70655&p=1164017#p1164017 Our House is full of magical things patiently waiting for our Home to be built Re: Mortar colour 16May 24, 2014 11:10 pm I'd go for the lighter coloured mortar with the lighter coloured bricks.
