Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 20, 2014 4:58 pm Oh gosh - what have we got ourselves into.. Build hasn't even started and the dramas are well on way. So yesterday we had our tender appt with PD (finally - delayed by 3 months). In that we found out that we would need to get gas and electricity abolished which could take up to 20 working days! Had we known that before, we would have given our tenants notice of vacating the property earlier. The problem is we have a promotion that we will lose out on if the site start is not in August 2014. I am soooo annoyed. The gas company (AGL) have said they won't abolish gas until tenants vacate (so that will be 30th June) which means we won't have demolition completed till 1st or 2nd week of August - which will make the actual site start sometime in September. The electricity company seem to have agreed after a lot of discussion to do it on a specified date. Anyone have any ideas on how to deal with this? Re: HELP PLS! Abolishment of Gas and Electricity 2May 24, 2014 7:33 pm The problem is AGL wont be the ones abolishing the meter, the gas supplier will. I am in SA and that is Envestra. Took me ages getting my gas abolished and AGL just didnt really care. They couldnt tell me when it was happening and used to ask me to call back the next week. They said they would email Envestra but who knows if they did. I couldnt talk to Envestra direct either. Just keep at them, threaten to go to the energy ombudsman if you are getting no where. Can the tenant move out a week earlier? Re: HELP PLS! Abolishment of Gas and Electricity 3May 25, 2014 8:26 pm Our friends were in the same boat - they confirmed a date for demolition and the week before it was due to commence, tried to disconnect the gas and found out about the 20 working day timeframe. They asked if they could hurry things along, rang as many of the parties involved in disconnecting a gas supply as they could (they were told it would need council involvement to close the road, traffic controllers and what-not) and in the end, the gas was disconnected 2 days after they first rang. Took a crew of 2, no road closure involved. Perhaps that applies more to a busy road. Re: HELP PLS! Abolishment of Gas and Electricity 4May 26, 2014 11:50 am Thank you for the comments..
