Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 16, 2014 10:25 am Hi Guys, My fiance and I have moved in our new home! Its been 6 weeks and we are loving it! I just noticed something that didnt look right, and was only noticeable after we had our bamboo flooring installed after the first week. See the picture below: It seems my wall is curved and the skirting + flooring edge exaggerates the effect quite a fair bit! I thought it was not noticeable but i can tell the distance and alignment from the next section of the corridor is different. This is probably my inexperience talking but, is this normal and within allowance? my private home inspection went through without comment on this. Thanks everyone Re: wall is not straight? what to do? 2May 16, 2014 10:37 am I'd be asking the builder to fix it at the 3 month maintenance ... otherwise it will drive you crazy! Floors look great by the way! For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: wall is not straight? what to do? 3May 16, 2014 10:45 am I actually noticed a very similar thing with my family room wall in my first build, it was only slight... but it was there! After the 3 month maintenence period expired unfortunately I did call them about it but got no love, unsurprisingly.... Re: wall is not straight? what to do? 6May 16, 2014 5:24 pm This is very common, it happens because the metal external corners for the plaster can protrude 3-4mm wider than the 10mm sheet so when the corners are set it creates a curve in the wall as you have. It's ugly, but unfortunately ugly is not a defect. So it will depend on how generous your builder is as to if they'll fix it or not. There is a simple solution that does not require pulling anything down. They simply cut along the top of the skirting and lever it away from the wall untill the skirting is straight. If its not too bad there might be a 2-3mm gap between the skirting and the wall that can be simply gapped up and painted. If its wider there may be a need to skim the bottom of the wall with plaster to straighten the curve in the wall and reduce the gap, its then gapped and painted as above. The unit normally clips into a metal plate screwed to the wall, either plate is not flush, or unit not hooked in and could be hanging from the pipes partly, either might… 2 15773 Thanks for your reply! All valid points and I agree with you on many of them. I am in QLD, any recommendations on a construction lawyer would be helpful 3 2629 Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that.
