Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 15, 2014 9:10 pm Hi All, Seems we have our first issue. We asked that the cupboards (overhead kitchen, bathroom and ensuite) have the same pattern as the one in the display home (which costed a little extra). Unfortunately the display home, the pattern was horizontal, they've put ours as vertical (in our opinion, it looks particularly bad on the wide kitchen overheads) Where should this have been specified and do we have a right to ask for it to be changed? https://www.dropbox.com/s/pojd74tz6rdg7qk/cup1.jpg https://www.dropbox.com/s/lbh1x2yrbxfpuod/display.jpg https://www.dropbox.com/s/7icm5f7tez9qt33/bcup.jpg Re: cupboards laminate stripe direction 2May 15, 2014 9:23 pm Probably should have specified it in contract I'd say. It would of been in the Prestart contracts with the cabinet colour. Unfortunately your Prestart person just copied the colour and didn't think to copy the direction of the grain or to even ask. Not sure if your builder would be willing to do much as it would mean redoing the cabinets...bit hard to even meet half way good luck! Re: cupboards laminate stripe direction 4May 15, 2014 11:09 pm we had a wood grain laminex .I had chosen for it to be vertical and at that stage only seen it horizontal so I was worried what it would look like. one of my reasons for choosing it vertical was that they didn't have to line the lines up there for less chance of them stuffing it up. I think yours looks great .I know you propley would of loved it the other way and your vision of it looking different but it looks great . Re: cupboards laminate stripe direction 5May 16, 2014 8:28 am If you are building in WA - our woodgrain in all bathrooms is horizontal. We requested this at pre-start and it was a one off charge, under $1000 from memory. I do remember us specifically requesting the horizontal lines, but if you asked the exact same kitchen as the display, at least it should have been pointed out to you that your woodgrain would be vertical. Have you got in writing anywhere that you wanted your kitchen to match the display kitchen? Re: cupboards laminate stripe direction 6May 16, 2014 9:31 am I think your cupboards look lovely. If you've got it written somewhere that the cupboards are to be as per XYZ display then I think you've got a case for getting them changed to how you want it... no cost involved. If it isn't written any where they you are going to have to pay to change it. A+ service from the builder on this as it would have been a costly mistake to rectify. Perhaps the grain direction will be on the selection forms for future customers now Re: cupboards laminate stripe direction 9May 20, 2014 2:17 pm Brilliant! Well done. My build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68002 Assuming you've modelled the TB8, TB10, TB12, TB2 & J1 joists/LVLs there, it appears as per drawing to me.
