Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 14, 2014 4:14 pm Hi, My builder included concrete tiles into the quote which cost the same as colorbond. Terracotta would be more expensive. My friend told me that concrete tiles are bad, the builder claims that they are now much better than before and stronger than terracotta. Anyone has any opinion on choosing between concrete tiles, terracotta tiles and colorbond? Thanks. 2014 30/05 $3900 25/08 Contracts 02/10 DA submitted 2015 17/02 DA approved 02/04 Colors 10/04 Demo 09/07 Construction start 27/07 Fill 15/08 Slab 21/09 Frame 2016 08/01 Bricks Re: Conrete tiles 2May 14, 2014 7:51 pm It always interests me when people make statements as your friend has done. Based onn what are they saying concrete tiles are bad? Drive through a new estate and see what ratio there are of tiles to colourbond, i'm guessing better than 50%. The one thing I would suggest if using tiles is to ensure you pay the extra for sarking. Anyone has any opinion on choosing between concrete tiles, terracotta tiles and colorbond? Thanks. You do see more and more houses building with concrete tiles and I think it all comes down to cost. From what I have been told, is that the concrete vs clay (terracotta), concrete's rate of water absorption is a lot higher than clay. This causes the tile to retain water for a longer time, meaning a higher chances of mold to grow on the tile as well as discolouration. I would also say that clay is probably more durable then cement, I don't know it's scientific property, but terracotta tiles I do know need to be baked in an oven making them stronger. Don't know if cement tiles are baked?
