Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 10, 2014 7:47 pm Hello! Have been a lurker on these pages for over a year now and finally have a question of my own. We have upgraded to have bulkheads in our kitchen. The gyprock went on last week as well as the cornice but no bulkhead, is this installed after the kitchen is installed? I just thought it odd to have the cornice put on if bulkheads are going to be there? any ideas???? thanks, Tuli Re: Bulkhead question??? 2May 10, 2014 10:08 pm Sounds like a mistake, I'd be talking to your supervisor. We had bulkheads made out of craft wood added to our kitchen after the main plastering, but the cornices were put on afterwards obviously. No bulkhead to start and they put cornices evrywhere which at the time I thought was odd. Was ages before they did the bulkhead and long after the kitchen was installed. I remember asking SS at the time why they did that and it had something to do with the finish at join with overheads cupboards or something ... Can't really remember. Re: Bulkhead question??? 4May 11, 2014 12:41 pm Re: Bulkhead question??? 6May 11, 2014 6:20 pm The plasterer wouldn't know about the bulkhead, so just does all the cornice. No big deal the bulkhead will go in with the kitchen and the cornice will be fixed when he pre paint is done. Why wasn't the plasterer told? Cause it would make no difference, and mean there's one less piece of paperwork, as long as the SS and cabinetmaker know there's a bulkhead there that's the main thing. Re: Bulkhead question??? 8May 12, 2014 7:49 am Obviously it varies between builders. All our bulkheads (apart from kitchen one) were done at framing stage, similar to picture above. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Bulkhead question??? 9May 12, 2014 9:37 am Yours is a little different. Yours looks like a feature bulkhead rather than the bulkhead above the overhead cabinets the OP is asking about. To the OP, afterwards is correct as the cabinet maker can install the MDF bulkhead. Re: Bulkhead question??? 11May 12, 2014 8:58 pm Just goes to show how so many things are done differently, depending on the builder! Our front door doesn't have the correct handle on it, has a very plain old style one. Im pretty sure the longer more modern one will be put on later in the build though, another thing to keep an eye on but did notice straight away. Re: Bulkhead question??? 12May 13, 2014 6:20 am tulip your front door will have an old lock that all the builders trades will have a key for. when it gets to the end of the build that will be removed and the lock you selected with a key only you have will be fitted. Re: Bulkhead question??? 15May 22, 2014 8:17 pm Hi Smlee, I wouldn't worry too much after reading the responses I got. It does make sense that the cornice person would just do the whole house rather than more paper work to NOT do a certain spot. Happy Building! You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 9961 I would say both styles you have pictured are steel. The lower chord of the first pic would be a massive lump if made using timber considering the size of the rafters. If… 1 6153 1 13125 |
