Building A New House

Sorry if this question has been answered as I tried to had a look around but can't seem to find the right answer. I'm building with PD and I understand that the standard contract will say we will be compensated at $250 per week if there is a delay beyond the completion date. My question is whether anyone has successfully increase that amount, let's say to $500 per week if there is a delay? Or am I dreaming?

You are negotiating a contract so you can ask but. . .
The builder could refuse to sign the contract, or ask for extra money to cover their extra risk.

Ours is $40/day ($280/w) and I asked to increase it to $50/day which got a simple "no".
I'm sure if I asked for it say prior to accepting the tender, they would've been more flexible but as bashworth mentions they'll probably add that risk onto their costs somewhere.
