Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 09, 2014 12:17 am Hi We're just trying to explore all options to build in a non-metro area of Perth before we commit to the purchase of the block. Ive been having trouble finding a builder who will build there (Shire of GinGin) a couple of questions ... Has anyone had any experience with a 'modular home' building company? 'modular home' as in can be built, transported to site & completed in 18-20 or so weeks? Pros/Cons. We also don't have sewer connection so will need to install a septic - any idea on the cost? Its on a long list of people to call to get some estimates but thought Id just ask the question here. If theres anyone living in the area were there any 'surprises' that I should be aware of. Thnaks. : : : : : : : : : : : : 2014 | Time to move to the country 2012 | Our Build with Dale Alcock https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61943 Re: Info on modular (prefab) homes Gingin Area Perth WA 2May 09, 2014 12:25 am Two that spring to mind are... I haven't built with either, but know people who built with T R Homes and they are very happy with their house. http://www.trhomes.com.au/?gclid=CLqFzo ... vQodYF0Axg http://www.mcgrathhomes.com.au/ Do a search for Modular Homes or Transportable homes, you may well find more. Good luck. Re: Info on modular (prefab) homes Gingin Area Perth WA 3May 09, 2014 11:48 am There was also a story about BGC Modular in one of the new homes liftouts in either The West or The Sunday Times a few months back. http://www.bgcmodular.com.au/ A few members on here have built in the hills (Bedfordale etc) and I think a lot of these areas have ATU sewerage systems, maybe search them and ask about cost? I think the idea of modular homes is great, you can do an inspection before it leaves the factory and have any rectifications done quickly as they would probably have all the trades employed or at least on their premises full time. Re: Info on modular (prefab) homes Gingin Area Perth WA 4May 09, 2014 1:53 pm I've had experience with a few prefab home suppliers as part of a previous role and had trouble with quality. These units were made in China and shipped over though. Tr homes had a good rep where I worked though. Our septic system in the hills is quoted at circa 10k. Other cost considerations; Water tanks Power run in (trenching) Bush fire attack level build costs (and the proposed new rules) General siteworks. Re: Info on modular (prefab) homes Gingin Area Perth WA 5May 09, 2014 3:10 pm Thanks for that! Ive heard nothing but great reports about TR Homes so Ill definitely be looking into them - we are after something a little less traditional like double brick and their designs look well thought out. Jays ... made in China and shipped over though. Tr homes had a good rep where I worked though. Thanks again for you comments - off to make some further calls. : : : : : : : : : : : : 2014 | Time to move to the country 2012 | Our Build with Dale Alcock https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61943 Re: Info on modular (prefab) homes Gingin Area Perth WA 6Sep 19, 2018 11:54 pm Beachside, what did you build in the end?
