Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 06, 2014 4:48 pm Our brickwork was finished yesterday and our SS has told us that we should expect completion of our house to be 6 months from now. We're a little taken back given our slab went down 10 weeks ago. We opted to do quite a few things ourself after hand-over - flooring (except wet areas), painting, lights (except junction boxes), window coverings etc. I'm just wondering if we've been given the worst case or if that really is a realistic time-frame? Re: Time Frames? 2May 06, 2014 4:56 pm thats probably your contractual completion date. six months seems absurd for the inside of the house. We laid a slab at the end of march, and theyve already completed bricks, plaster, cabinetry is in (bar the stone tops). All thats really left is painting, flooring, finishing the cabinetry, faceplate son the electrical work installing the lights and driveway/concrete outside. I cant imagine that would take anywhere near 6 months. Creator of superduperonium, expert at expert things, nobel laureate, can hold my breath for 10 minutes. Re: Time Frames? 3May 06, 2014 5:15 pm I'd be expecting the contract time-frame, and consider anything earlier to be a bonus. They've built themselves a safety margin, but you don't know whether (as an example) for some reason they've still got lots of other interior work going-on elsewhere but they've finished all the exterior stuff elsewhere; so yours was done quickly until now, but you've now hit their bottle-neck. Re: Time Frames? 4May 06, 2014 5:26 pm From someone who has one of the worlds slowest builds it is definitely possible but you can only hope that's a worst case. On the upside, atleast they've been honest instead of getting your hopes up and then having them dashed. Building the Leabrook with Fairmont Homes in Mallala, SA.
