Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Ben Trager build - Selections 62Aug 19, 2014 9:51 pm Had our prestart today think we kept mostly to the budget but probably spent about $10k :/ so easy to do and adds up so quickly! Met Ben Trager himself which was nice to put a face to a name! Now look forward to slab down Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Our Ben Trager build - Pre-Start Done 64Aug 22, 2014 6:21 pm Pretty impressed, we had prestart on Tuesday and received our costings back first thing this morning. Very quick turn around. Thought we'd spent $10K but try double that!! Bit of a heart starter. Have had to cut out a bit but oh well, at least with BTH we got a lot of stuff we would of had to add with other builders, as standard. Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Our Ben Trager build - Pre-Start Done 65Aug 22, 2014 6:32 pm Our pre-start items came back quickly too. However, you obviously had a bigger list than us. $20K? What were your major splurges? Re: Our Ben Trager build - Pre-Start Done 66Aug 22, 2014 6:40 pm I wish mine had only been $20k, mine was closer to $60k My Build, viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64837 Re: Our Ben Trager build - Pre-Start Done 67Aug 22, 2014 6:44 pm Wow that is big. What did u have cut? Did they give u a ballpark number on the day? There were a few smaller things that got cut but the rest we kept. My Build, viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64837 Re: Our Ben Trager build - Pre-Start Done 69Aug 22, 2014 6:57 pm Yep, heard rumours about those gold plated water filters so we didn't even ask for it, we'll just sort it out later. Our build thread [url]https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=71492/url] Prestart: 18/7/14 Final plans: 13/8/14 Building permit: 30/9/14 Re: Our Ben Trager build - Pre-Start Done 70Aug 22, 2014 7:04 pm We've cut it back down to half now. I have no idea...on paper it doesn't look like $20K! Some of them are double ups I guess, providing a quote for different situations, and one was a mistake that is actually no charge. We had quoted but removed from the quote, overhead cupboards ($1700 - will do after), colourbond gutters ($870), a steel pole on the balcony instead of wood ($550), acrashield to render ($2700), glass splash back ($1100 - will do after), $1200 in gloss for the cupboards, this should halve now we've removed the overheads. We kept the pot draws ($1350), upgraded all of the door heights and upgraded the doors ($1500), electrical changes ($3800), nib wall along the ensuite shower as a shelf ($370), omni front door handle ($270), upgraded the essastone to kitchen ($470), changed our man hole to a door upstairs instead of in the ceiling ($515 - ouch but have to pay for a full size solid core door to cut down and a proper privacy lock..bf wants it!), our ensuite and balcony tiles are out of the standard range and rectified ($1200), upgraded all of the bathrooms basins ($780), upgraded kitchen tap ($150), second colour of render ($500), gloss for cupboards but unsure on cost yet, estimating $600. We also got a credit for removing the paving and soap dishes, $1300 We didn't really ask for costs on the day, but we did get the cost on the day for our electrical, we could cut cost there for upstairs and rooms not under the slab but can't be bothered dealing with it after and their prices seemed pretty good for power points etc. Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Our Ben Trager build - Pre-Start Done 71Aug 22, 2014 7:14 pm They tend to add up unfortunately. Ur elec is similar to ours, doors too. Couldnt believe how much to upgrade doors!! How does the door work instead of a manhole? This way you can also put a floor in the ceiling and use it for some storage too I think. Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Our Ben Trager build - Pre-Start Done 73Aug 22, 2014 10:18 pm Smart move. We should have done the same at the top of our stairs. The electrical changes seem high but better to get it done upfront. I have access to plenty of sparkies so thought I'd do it after handover like we did at our current house but forgot about have an upper floor slab to deal with. We can still work it out though. My Thread (Halls Head Beach House): viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67006 Re: Our Ben Trager build - Pre-Start Done 74Aug 22, 2014 10:56 pm My partner added about 7 TV points I think that's the bulk of the expense as they were $180 each from memory! Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Our Ben Trager build - Pre-Start Done 75Aug 23, 2014 12:51 am That's a lot of tellies! Or a lot of indecision? Just realised I didn't get credit for giving up our soap dishes! Ha! I reckon they were worth 50 cents each. All the rest sounds fairly comparable to our variation costs. http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Our Ben Trager build - Pre-Start Done 77Aug 23, 2014 11:20 am Just being prepared I think! We never had tv points in our bedrooms at home till we got older and then it was a bit more $$ to get done, this way it's all Covered from the get go, we have them in all bedrooms, the activity room, the family room and the theatre. Deff won't have a tv on all of them probably ever but the next owners might Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Our Ben Trager build - Pre-Start Done 79Sep 06, 2014 2:32 pm We received unconditional finance approval yesterday - yay!
