Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 03, 2014 1:00 pm Hi All, Building our first home and have noticed what appears to be a lot of water leaking on the eaves (also into the garage? Possibly from the eaves into the wall?). Is this an issue? I Googled a bit and it looks like the gutters may be blocked or that they are not large enough to deal with the amount of water coming off the roof. Should I stop the remaining progress payments until something is fixed? I asked it they would replace it and they said they would if it was sagging. I was told the leak was there because the plumber had not yet put in the water overflow thing in the roof. Re: Leaks during construction? 6May 05, 2014 11:06 am I spoke to the builder today and he said that the water marks are a result of cleaning the bricks. Still wondering if I should get building-expert to do an inspection. It would mean less stress for me as I could me more confident there are no issues, but its not cheap (unless you compare to the cost of the house etc etc). Will let you know what I end up doing. Cheers. Re: Leaks during construction? 7May 05, 2014 6:21 pm Yes the external mess looks like spray from cleaning, nothing to worry about there, they'll pain over that and it'll come up just fine. Re: Leaks during construction? 9May 06, 2014 11:07 am My godness, you would think there would be some standard in relation of what need to be completed by what stage of the build. This house seems to be at the "internal fitout" stage or just passed the plastering stage - and still has not the major thing completed (making the roof fit for its purpose). My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Leaks during construction? 12May 10, 2014 4:04 pm The the upshot is there is no leak its just wet eaves because your builder did the right thing and had the bricks cleaned. If you had of asked the builder the question before posting on here there would be no need for speculation and people immediately bagging on the builder for something they have little idea about. Re: Leaks during construction? 13May 10, 2014 6:57 pm has the leak inside the house been fix, what came back in the inspection? we had a leak in our roof which caused mould as the insulation got wet and we didnt catch the leak quick enough. There is water getting into the ceiling, I expected to find some holes in the corrugated roof but there weren't any so I suspect that the roof drip edge is letting water… 0 2064 Can you give advice on how to get missing certificates needed for a form 21?
