Do you need a single/double power point on ceiling for garage door opener, or is it included in builder's package? Not sure if a single double power point is sufficient for your Theatre room if you have lots of equipments... Re: Electrical plan - comments please! 23May 25, 2008 10:01 am oznow * i will restrict the number of ceiling fan interesting suggestion - why? in terms of being eco-friendly - running a fan is much better than air con all night. We also don't like the dryness in the air that comes with refrigerated a/c when trying to sleep. yak chat Offset fans can be advantages in creating a movement of air around the room as opposed to just down the walls. How much offset? Do you have any links on suggested placements? After 4 years - we're in! Re: Electrical plan - comments please! 24May 25, 2008 11:26 am Offset the lights and put the ceiling fans in the centre of the rooms. Re: Electrical plan - comments please! 25May 25, 2008 6:48 pm Hi,
Just some ideas we are putting into our place. Quads instead of doubles where there is a tv point for gadgets (dvd, video, foxtel surround sound, etc, etc). In pantry about bench height for mobile phone chargers so they are out of the way and don't have to sit on the kitchen bench. (also our cat eats the ends of the chargers, probably not a problem for people with normal pets!) Another double in the laundry for iron, dust buster, etc so you don't have to unplug washer or dryer all the time. One on the outdoor room pillar up high for a bug zapper. (depends if mozzies are a problem where you are) Think about future needs outdoors, garden lighting, water feature, blower etc. Also I noticed you have a power point upstairs in the hallway. If this is only for the purpose of using the vacuum I'd put it in the linen press at floor level. Still easy for the vacuum (the cord will fit under the door) but not so tempting or dangerous for little fingers as an exposed power point in a hallway. (don't know if you have or will have little ones so this may not be a factor) Good luck with it all. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Electrical plan - comments please! 26May 25, 2008 7:10 pm Stonecutter - re the offsets - it depends on the room and where the air will move to and from.
Offsets are generally used to move air around a larger room, to create airflow in the house verus straight down air. I've seen them in a few eco houses and it;s all part of the design to move the air around. Do you know where your prevaliing breezes come from? I assume fans are planned for summer, but they are also useful for winter to move warm around to but they need to be working with the prevaling breezes to. I'd suggest that the light in the office should be moved to stop flicker and also give good task lighting at the desk. Also think about where you will sit in the family dining room, and maybe move them to where you think you will get the best effect from them, and don't put them beside doorways.
