Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 18, 2014 2:19 pm Hi everyone Our front door and side glass panels come with clear glass as standard. Our builder has quoted $600 to frost the glass, which seems pricey. Has anyone done this post handover? Do you think it is worth doing it yourself? Thanks BLOG: http://www.ourphoenix38.blogspot.com.au H1 THREAD: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70454 Re: Post handover frosting of windows 3Apr 18, 2014 4:05 pm You can get some film at bunnings that will do the same job, just be sure to take your time installing it. Cut the sheets slightly over size, work out air bubbles as you go and trim any excess with a sharp Stanley blade. We had this in our old external laundry and lasted really well for years. Alternatively you can also buy a spray on finish but I understand it can be a bit tough to get an even coat on. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Post handover frosting of windows 4Apr 18, 2014 10:00 pm I have to do the same thing. I wonder if the tint a car people can do a white frosty finish or do they all look like black glass? We must have nodded off when we apparently signed of on clear glass to toilet, ensuite and bathroom. Might start ringing around ins few weeks for a quote. Apparently the stuff from bunnings can shrink a little in direct sunlight. I guess you could do it again then. Re: Post handover frosting of windows 5Apr 19, 2014 7:45 am I have used the spray can from Bunnings in the past. Whilst it was a very cheap alternative and did the job, it also looked like an amateur job. If we are spending all this money to build a new home, we want it to look good!! I think we may have to contact a glass company to enquire how much to change over the panels. She suggested getting a film applied by Tint Design in Kilsyth: http://www.tintdesign.com.au/ We haven't done it yet so I don't know costs. Might be worth comparing this with replacing the glass. It seems very clear to me that your contract states that a security account does NOT need to be established so the answer to the builder is NO.
