Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 16, 2014 10:19 pm Can anyone advise me of any display homes around Melbourne that appear to be pitched at empty nesters (like my wife and I) who would like to build a new home, but who don't really need four bedrooms plus a games room plus a lounge room plus... I realise that the resale value of a smaller house might not be so great, but it seems to me a little pointless my wife and I building a new house full of rooms we won't use just because its resale value may be higher some way down the track. Personally, I think I'd rather have a smaller house with nicer fittings. I guess we could get an architect to design us anything we liked, but the cost of that could be prohibitive on our budget - so I'm interested to know if there are any realistic project home options. This is a first posting for me. I'd be most grateful for any suggestions. Re: Melbourne: Any display homes suitable for empty nesters? 2Apr 16, 2014 10:43 pm Hi PeterTrumpet, Welcome to the forum. Rest assured that there will be plenty of people with some good advice here. Can I just say that it is refreshing to hear from someone that actually wants to build a smaller house. For my two cents worth (and I am in Sydney so not totally familiar with all the Melbourne builders) but of the many project home builders I am familiar with here most do have smaller house designs. It;s just that they don't tend to build them in display villages. There they build the biggest, flashiest ones they can to wow people into buying as big a house as they can afford. I know that Henley Homes have some good smaller designs as would quite a few of the other builders as well. I'd be interested in seeing what other people recommend. I wish you the best of luck in your hunt! Cheers, Jenny. Need hints, tips and inspiration? Join me on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ournewhomecoach Who am I? Well, I'm too young to be a empty nester, but I don't have children and don't want any. I found some when I was looking for a builder, like henley charlotte, burbank cornell 1900, carlisle turnball etc. You can google them, big enough for couple, for family with two kids, years later you can sell, can rent out. The spare rooms can be used as guest rooms during xmas holidays, study etc. Not recommended! The image presented is for a sublevel area. The footings are down deep with a load bearing wall supporting the upper floor level. If you did that drain… 8 10588 May I ask why you chose not to use GJ Gardiner? I'm actually meeting with one of the sales guys tomorrow for an appointment. Definitely not signing anything yet… 3 13247 I haven’t. But have a Lowe Design home. Not only did I find Matt Lowe patronising and a bully, but the home is NOT TO CODE. I have water coming through the bricks… 1 13955 |
