Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 13, 2014 6:41 pm Hey guys, Just wanted to know whether up anybody has black truffle essastone benchtops in their kitchen.. I'm set on wanting a black benchtop but not too sure on whether to get Galileo or Black Truffle.. I really wanted the gloss looking kitchen.. I feel black truffle has a lot more gloss to it and the specks of silver adds a luxurious feel.. Does anybody else think that? I also wanted polar white for cabinets and have it in the gloss.. But is it hard to clean? And what's it like when it's scratched up? Is it easy to scratch? We haven't got kid yet but will hopefully have some in the future.. We also wanted to get red glass splashback and I was wondering we would be legible to get credit for the tiles yes? Is it better to do it yourself? As in do it later.. Or do builders charge same price? Any input would be lovely, and if you've got pictures of your Galileo or black truffle benchtops I would love to have a look x Building: The Maxum Builder: New Generation Homes Estate: Springtime Estate, Xavier ____________________________ Our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=73924 Re: Kitchen colours and materials 2Apr 13, 2014 6:55 pm I have black Galileo and white cupboards in our ensuite. I honestly find the bench top really hard to keep clean. I feel like every mark and bit of water and dust shows up in it. But if your committed to it it does look nice - and the flecks in it look great. Re: Kitchen colours and materials 3Apr 13, 2014 7:02 pm I asked the same questions when building and got a strong number of people warning me not to do a black benchtop as it is really difficult to keep clean. But..... the black/ white combination does look great. Re: Kitchen colours and materials 4Apr 13, 2014 7:30 pm Thanks for the quick reply asj25 and joyful builder.. I know it sounds crazy.. People have told me about black being dirty.. But it's just got to be haha.. We've got ideas of theme in out heads already.. Did you guys get the silk gloss or crystal gloss finish at all? Gah!! Don't have gloss. But everyone who sees bathroom always comment that they love it and that it's timeless - which is true! Re: Kitchen colours and materials 6Apr 13, 2014 8:51 pm I've gone for silk finish in polar white but my kitchen isn't finished yet so can't comment on how it is. Have you tried microfiber cloths asj25? A wet one to clean, a dry one to "polish". Re: Kitchen colours and materials 9Apr 14, 2014 2:44 pm Oh gosh I have a black laminate benchtop in my current rental. It's a NIGHTMARE. Listen to the warnings seriously. It will do you head in. Even when buffed dry you can still see dry-lines and watermark type things. It's hideous. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. I feel like Everytime I make a decision it's like hard to stick to it.. Does anybody else feel that way? But I was wrong haha - regret it all the time haha. But either way you weigh it up - if you really want that and you are aware of the cons I'm sure you won't regret it Re: Kitchen colours and materials 13Apr 14, 2014 8:33 pm I feel the same.... but I also do a ridiculous amount of research on things because I've made mistakes in the past. Our last place had light grey, almost white floor tiles... with very light grey grout. Looked great for 5 minutes. Always looked dirty after that, even when clean. Drove me absolutely crazy. asj25 - I was very close to getting a black car. Then got a dark silver, thinking it would be charcoal but it was the darkest in that type. Hubby recently got a charcoal coloured car (the colour I originally wanted) and the amount of dirt it shows, it may as well be black). Issyandand Ozzy - I think it comes down to - if you like your kitchen to look clean, but don't necessarily want to clean it every 5 minutes. If you do go for black, go for the one with the most pattern/ imperfections, to try to camouflage the streaks/ marks. Re: Kitchen colours and materials 14Apr 16, 2014 7:24 pm I had a laminate similar to black truffle. would never get it again. showed crumbs everywhere. looked great cleaned but trashed 5 minutes later. could you go white truffle and use a black tiled splash back? maybe black stools if you have an island bench? Not sure about the red. That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8640 in the stormwater pit or the drain? Those dont look like theyd fit in the drain.
