Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Anyone building wisdom homes ambassador? 42Feb 04, 2015 10:18 pm Colt suggested same change to the WIR to us but we didn't go with it. We have a closed WIR like that at the moment and really battling with humidity so was scared there won't be proper airflow and squeezing past each other to get clothes in the morning is not fun so we didn't like the idea of the closed off WIR. We are taking the balcony of the master. We have a home gym and I enjoy having my spinning bike outside. Will have a view over the pool from the balcony so for us the balcony is a big plus. I have had it in most of our houses and love sleeping with the doors open at night in summer. Was initially thinking of putting our spa on it too but then we need additional enforcements. Now I am thinking that an infra red sauna would be nice Re: Anyone building wisdom homes ambassador? 43Feb 05, 2015 9:20 am Hi Lstr123 and Carix Thank you for your help, will get in touch with Colt and see what he can come up with for me. Lstr123 how long have you been waiting since you signed contracts, seems like a really long time? Re: Anyone building wisdom homes ambassador? 46Feb 05, 2015 2:48 pm That's just how Long wisdom takes. I was very quick with all my appts and decisions also. Not many changes and also returned all paperwork back on the same day received. Be prepared! Apparently they are changing the process in march though cause they know their admin process is dreadful Re: Anyone building wisdom homes ambassador? 48Feb 06, 2015 10:53 am HI Lstr123, Just spoke to Colt they are changing the system of how they do the admin work but not by much he is still saying the turn around time is 12 months. Not sure I really want to wait that long now. The last time I built it was so much quicker 5 months and I moved in. My expectations have dropped slightly now How r u coping waiting so long? Re: Anyone building wisdom homes ambassador? 51Feb 09, 2015 7:43 am Pretty much. We also started the process in Early April and are only just getting to site. No matter how much jumping up and down you do, they are extremely slow. We didn't sign our contract until September I think. We wanted to wait until our land had registered first. Re: Anyone building wisdom homes ambassador? 52Feb 09, 2015 11:58 am Mind you, extreme and I followed them up for everything so it was constantly us going to them. So if we waited for them to come to us, god knows where we would of been. Anyways everyone says they build a good home and relatively quickly so let's see.... Re: Anyone building wisdom homes ambassador? 55Mar 09, 2015 9:07 pm Hi there everyone, We are also building the Ambassador 36 with modifications. Included a downstairs shower, parents retreat off the main room (so not a balcony, it's a closed off room with two windows and carpet. The downstairs room will be a guest room. Anyway we pretty much didn't do anything else different. Oh and we closed off one side of the WIR to have more space as recommended by Colt. And we are going with the Savannah facade. I'm a little annoyed because it's not exactly the same as the promotional pics, and I have no idea why it was drafted that way but silly me didn't check it properly. By the time I realised it, it was right after signing contracts and we won't dare change it as it will just hold up the whole process more than it already has. Carix, I'm interested in how your bathroom upstairs looks with the bathtub, we also have two boys but didn't think to try and put it in there. Would you be able to show me your plans for the bathroom config? Also, anybody putting the oven up higher as a wall oven instead of low to the ground? I don't like the idea of bending to put food in and out of the oven and we haven't had our appointment yet but wondering how much it would cost to upgrade. Thanks in advance for your help! Re: Anyone building wisdom homes ambassador? 56Mar 10, 2015 1:19 pm Hi am99, I'm putting a built in double oven and separate gas cooktop in my Majestic 40. Wisdom were using Blanco for their goods & Timpelle for our kitchen when we had our tender. Blanco built in double oven BODE62X (600mm) & Blanco CGLP905WXFFC gas cooktop (900mm) $2570 Additional set of soft close drawers (1040mm) in white silk polyurethane for gas cooktop $960 Microwave/ wall oven in Laminex silk Lamiwood Espresso Ligna including 2 soft close drawers & 2 door overhead cabinet $900 So not cheap but I have always had a built in oven and like you didn't fancy bending down. The price of the oven & cooktop includes credit for the freestanding oven. I think Ilve appliances might be more expensive than Blanco I'm not sure. Hope this helps Building a Wisdom Majestic 40 at Gardener's Ridge My blog: http://majestic40atgardenersridge.wordpress.com/ Re: Anyone building wisdom homes ambassador? 58Jun 01, 2015 12:52 am Hi all! We are possibly building the Ambassador 41. We sat down with Colt last week and when we realised how much it was all going to cost we freaked out and are now looking at our wish list and what we need to cross off it! We already knew the basic cost of the house and that we would want to add a bit, but when you start sitting down and getting serious it is kind of scary!! If someone could answer some questions for me that would be great! 1. What were your MUST haves (upgrades) for your build? So far we have extending garage, increased ceiling height downstairs, upgrading kitchen, adding shower downstairs and I am thinking I would also like to increase entrance (but probably wont be able to!) 2. Did anyone upgrade the back window in the leisure room? I love that big window but my partner says that it would put too much glare on the TV! I am worried it might look too closed in with the smaller windows that are standard. 3. What would a kitchen upgrade allowance of $15,000 get me? Not sure if I am over budgeting or under budgeting. Would things like pot drawers to whole kitchen, increase island bench size, additional cabinets under bench, two tone cabinets and possible material upgrade, waterfall ends to bench. Am I dreaming that $15,000 will cover these? 4. Has anyone got bamboo flooring through Wisdom? We would prefer to get it done by the builder as we don't want to muck around and it is covered under warranty etc. I have been told to add about $10,000..is this about right (only downstairs) 5. I have noticed people have chosen to get insulation. What is the cost of this? Do I really need it (no experience living in a double story house!) 6. Would you recommend getting built in cabinetry completed by Wisdom or getting it done after hand over? Will we save much getting it done after? 7. Is upgrading the air con something we should really consider? 8. Would you recommend getting another tender? We also like one of the Metricon designs and was wondering if anyone has experience getting a tender from them as well and how they compare. Sorry about all of the questions! Thanks for your help! Anyone building wisdom homes ambassador? 59Jun 01, 2015 9:57 am Hi, we are building the Ambassador 41 and also got a tender from Metricon for the Liberty. We went with Wisdom as they were cheaper, was more flexible in giving me the facade I wanted (wanted a balcony above the garage but didn't like any of their facades that had it), we also felt that Metricon wasted space as there was nothing built above the garage and with the Ambassador we have all ensuite bathrooms which will be a selling point should we sell in future. We have added lots of upgrades but I don't think the upgrade prices they give you at tender is any good. We have allowed for 10k on electricals but post consultation sitting around $24k. Went for less downlights than the display home too. We are having the big glass windows off the leisure room. The media room will be used for TV mostly. We have added the sliding doors for the media too. We decided to go for upgrades that you cannot do after handover or that will be to difficult to do. E.g sliding doors and windows as per the display home. We do have a long list of upgrades and house is sitting around $600k. The kitchen allowance we had was $4000 and this was way to little as well. We only found out last week that to get the microwave tower you need a smaller window. The standard window is to big to fit the tower. There is another forum on here just for Wisdom. It has been very helpful and people raise very valid points. Good luck with all the decisions. Re: Anyone building wisdom homes ambassador? 60Jun 01, 2015 10:17 am Let me try answer few more of your questions: We are possibly building the Ambassador 41. We sat down with Colt last week and when we realised how much it was all going to cost we freaked out and are now looking at our wish list and what we need to cross off it! We already knew the basic cost of the house and that we would want to add a bit, but when you start sitting down and getting serious it is kind of scary!! colt suggested lots of floor changes to us which we didn't take. And sounds like he makes similar suggestions to everyone. Make a list of your must haves and nice to haves... If someone could answer some questions for me that would be great! 1. What were your MUST haves (upgrades) for your build? So far we have extending garage, increased ceiling height downstairs, upgrading kitchen, adding shower downstairs and I am thinking I would also like to increase entrance (but probably wont be able to!) We also increased the ceiling upstairs and downstairs; the staircase (the display home's is not standard), also extended the garage (only adding 1.5m for storage/home gym), doubled the outdoor alfresco, upgraded laundry, added fireplace, added underfloor heating, increased Caesar stone to 80mm in kitchen island, upgraded kitchen cabinetry to poly, we added a bath to the jack and Jill bathroom upstairs which also made the downstairs powder room bigger. This gave us enough space in the powder downstairs to add a shower without loosing the storage cupboard, we also added the drying portico off the laundry, moved the internal door from garage into house to be via laundry, added the upstairs balcony of the master, 2. Did anyone upgrade the back window in the leisure room? I love that big window but my partner says that it would put too much glare on the TV! I am worried it might look too closed in with the smaller windows that are standard. Yes did that. Will have a pool on the other side of the window. You have the media room for TV 3. Let me get back to you. Should have our final one post consultation soon. 4. Has anyone got bamboo flooring through Wisdom? We would prefer to get it done by the builder as we don't want to muck around and it is covered under warranty etc. I have been told to add about $10,000..is this about right (only downstairs) No. This is where we decided to cut costs. Going with what is included. There is a good tile range and we want underfloor heating. 5. I have noticed people have chosen to get insulation. What is the cost of this? Do I really need it (no experience living in a double story house!) we wanted this in the walls of the media ($850) as well as between the 2 levels ($2880). Don't want to hear people walk upstairs. 6. Would you recommend getting built in cabinetry completed by Wisdom or getting it done after hand over? Will we save much getting it done after? Which cabinetry are you referring to? I can give you estimates... 7. Is upgrading the air con something we should really consider? We don't. With a fireplace and underfloor heating in winter we should be ok. And we added ceiling fans upstairs and together with all sliding doors and windows I think we should be ok. I am not a fan of aircons and hardly ever use it. 8. Would you recommend getting another tender? We also like one of the Metricon designs and was wondering if anyone has experience getting a tender from them as well and how they compare. See previous post Hope this helped? Can someone please offer some advice? Im DESPERATE. Because I'm completely and utterly exhausted. How long are variations taking with other companies at the moment?
