Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 11, 2014 12:21 am Hi everyone, Have finally found a volume builder who won't shy away from building in BAL-FZ, which is a relief! One thing I must be careful of though is the fall across the building envelope. Obviously through orientation of the house, the fall across could potentially be reduced but the builder 'prefers' to build in an envelope under 2m fall across. I've noticed (and will definitely be utilising) that some people place a clause in their land contracts that it is subject to 'satisfactory soil reports, meeting a minimum soil standard of X class'. What I want to know is if the same thing could potentially be implemented about topographical surveying and potential fall across an envelope? If that is somewhat unreasonable, is there a chance I could potentially get permission from the vendor/agent to have a surveyor of my own choice to a topographical survey prior to placing a deposit/signing any contract? I don't want to be stuck with useless land. Also, does anyone have a ballpark figure of the cost of a surveyor to do a topographical contour map of the property? I won't require boundary re-marking as far as I'm aware. Thanks! My surveyor does all my contour surveys for around $1800 but includes everything possible in that price. Pegging the boundaries costs about $150 per boundary more. Stewie Re: Surveying prior to purchasing land? 4Apr 11, 2014 12:15 pm Alright sounds good, and im in South East Melbourne. Regarding surveying (topographical to see building viability) before purchasing or offering ona parcel of land, is this a common request to the vendor to allow me to have a surveyor some survey the land? Yeah I don't know why I came to a forum. Place is full of wierdos/pedos thought internet may help but I suppose I'll try my luck with someone in person. Cheers.
