Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 10, 2014 1:36 am I like the look of grey bricks, particularly the Keswick in the Austral Whitsunday range, but I'm not so keen on the Keswick being a slurry brick. Does anyone have any suggestions for a similarly coloured brick that is coloured through, and not just a colour on the surface? I can choose from Austral, PGH and Boral, and am prepared to upgrade but not astronomically! Re: Grey bricks - any suggestions? 2Apr 10, 2014 8:49 am If the reason you're concerned about it not being the same colour right through is because of them looking ugly when chipped ... I don't supposed the "base colour" is really close to the colour on the outside? 'Cos if it is, then you might not even notice the colour difference unless you look really hard. eg. if you chip ours, shadows & light-conditions etc mean you have to look really hard to see the difference. Dunno if that helps in any way shape or form. Re: Grey bricks - any suggestions? 3Apr 10, 2014 11:22 am We're using PGH Sorbetto, its a greyish/brown, more greyish brick which I think looks nice (biased yes I know) If you check out my blog in my sig you can see a few pics of it being used. She wasn't sure why as it is the only one from the range being discontinued... We loved the Keswick too but after she told us that we ended up going with 'Silver' StroudCpl K, L & 4 Kids Merlot Guest (with minor changes) Land Purchased 13/09/2012 Re: Grey bricks - any suggestions? 5Apr 10, 2014 10:02 pm Forg, the base brick of the Keswick is red and so chips are obvious on a light grey brick. Not from a distance admittedly. Also the ends have a brownish colour. But if Keswick bricks are being discontinued, I guess I don't have to worry about that! I think Silver and Sorbetto are also slurry bricks? What's the base colour of the Sorbetto casabonka? And of the Silver, StroudCpl? Re: Grey bricks - any suggestions? 6Apr 11, 2014 1:37 am Nice blog casabonka! And nice colour brick too. The pics answered my question about the colour of the base brick. I wouldn't mind a slurry brick if the base and surface colours were close, but grey mustn't be a colour that clay comes in! I was lucky enough to have a fussy bricky and only used decent bricks and through the rest. The builder had to order another 2 pallets due to imperfections. I believe that the Silver is also a reddish base colour brick, it seemed from the bricks we have looked at all the bases is that reddish colour. I love the grey look but not easy to find a complete brick in that colour or even a base close to the final colour. I've also driven past a house nearby that had Brampton bricks. I like that colour too, the red is probably not quite as obvious with the darker Brampton colour, but I like the lighter grey more! And I'd hate to get the bricks and find we have brickies who are not quite as careful as yours. I think you're right about the greys and base brick StroudCpl. I've come to that conclusion myself. It's lovely that I can choose from 3 brick suppliers but I haven't had time to drive to all 3 centres to examine their bricks. And the colours in the catalogues are hard to judge, particularly in the Austral catalogue.
