Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Custom Design on 5 Acres Northern NSW - Earth Works Star 61Jun 01, 2014 11:00 am Thanks guys, yes it is really exciting. I just want to stay out there and watch. It would be so hard to live away from a build. Went out yesterday for a look to see what had happened over the last few days. Lots had. Yay. The pad has been finished, and surveyors been and they have boxed up in preparation of the slab. They have started putting the plumbing in. In the next few days they will finish the plumbing, finish boxing up and should have a slab either late this week or early next week. It was cool walking around getting an idea of where everything would be. Unfortunately it came in a bit wet when we were there so has to cut our visit a little short. That's so exciting. You have so much space to play with! On one level I'm jealous but on another, you're going to have a task in landscaping! Yes, it's a double edged sword. Love the space but the landscaping is quite scary. Especially as it takes so long for anything to grow due to the cold. But we will have some paddocks for sheep or something which will help. Re: Custom Design on 5 Acres Northern NSW - Earth Works Star 65Jun 01, 2014 4:32 pm Looks fantastic! Must be so exciting seeing it take shape. Love the clock Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: Custom Design on 5 Acres Northern NSW - Earth Works Star 66Jun 01, 2014 5:18 pm Awesome it's all happening! It'll fly by. Edit: Forgot to talk about the sheep thing. We actually borrowed two sheep from O'conner to mow our lawn for us Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ They did a good job pruning and fertilising for us as well! However, if I had a choice I'd get a small pony instead. Making really good progress, and should have a slab this week, hopefully Thursday. The wet weather last Monday slowed them down a little, but they have made really good time in general. The slab is all boxed up, styrofoam is in place and the reo also in place. It is a hose that comes from the water meter up bear the road and runs about 100m up to bear the house, with a tap connected to the end of the hose. It's pretty funny! It is certainly looking massive at the moment. It will be interesting when the slab gets poured, as everyone says how small the slab looks. I'll have to contact the builder tomorrow to find our when we can expect the slab, so we can slip out then to get some slab pouring photos. It's crankin' along. Yeah the formwork does look big but the slab still looks small right up until the plaster goes on. We could have stayed to watch it all if we could! As soon as we got home today, we braved the cold (brrrrrr) to check the finished product. Very pleased indeed. We are really pleased of the progress so far. Just less than 3 weeks from site start to slab pour. They will now leave the slab for a week to cure, with frames due to start after that, next week. Re: Custom Design on 5 Acres Northern NSW - Earth Works Star 77Jun 16, 2014 8:08 pm Look at that! I think the boxing was taken off yesterday, and now it will sit for a few days, or week or so. Bl**dy Telstra. How hard is it to get a simple answer of getting cable from the street to the house. We aren't in a NBN area, so will have regular ADSL. I ring them, and they say the builder has to arrange it. THe builder calls, and they say it up to the client. GRRRR. I am so close to tell them where to put their phone connection. If I could find out if it will be about the same cost now, or later, I would wait til later, when we would be sure if we wanted it connected. Oh well, life isn't meant to be simple. Re: Custom Design on 5 Acres Northern NSW - Slabbed (Week 3) 79Jun 17, 2014 5:20 pm It looks fantastic and HUGE! Can't wait to see your frames going up! The slab was left for a week, and nothing happened at all on site. The beginning of week 5 saw the trench being dug to bring services (elect & water and should be phone grr). Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Approx 120m of trench. They will leave most of this trench open and hopefully we can get an answer from Telstra. Towards the end of the week (now nearly 2 weeks) we saw the delivery of the frames!
