The important thing to remember with building warranty insurance (I assume it is that type of insurance you are asking about), is that only structural defects are covered after 2 years and they are covered for only for 6 years. You also have to take every possible action against the builder and can virtually only use the policy when the builder is bankrupt. What it is good for is if the builder walks away and the job is nowhere near finished. Basically they are on a winner as regard risk and in my opinion the cost should be far less.
