Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 07, 2014 9:52 pm So we just went to our electrical meeting and was figuring out how many lights to use in each individual areas. Intending to go with LED downlights for most of the house, something like the Dormus 13W Deco. Now how does one effectively determine how much light is needed? Re: Electrical Meeting & How much lighting 2Apr 07, 2014 10:28 pm We were really guided by our builder on that one -i think the use of the room is a big factor ie kitchen has heaps ie 9 and living rooms only 4. I have had somewhere though some indications on how many lights for however many square footage - there is a separate thread here on lighting also! The main thing you need to be aware of is that as of May 2011, you are only allowed: 5 watts per square metre (5W/sqm) of lighting indoors 4 watts per square metre (4W/sqm) of lighting in outdoor areas (including verandahs) 3 watts per square metre (3W/sqm) of lighting in garages It has come as a surprise to me but presumably your builder will know. Re: Electrical Meeting & How much lighting 4Apr 08, 2014 2:27 pm But builder just refer us to the electrical guys which is home consulting. Seems like we can have as much as we like, as long as we supply the fittings, they just charge for installation.. In that case you could ask the suppliers as Im sure it would depend what type of lights you are using as to how much space they light My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70636&p=1161767#p1161767 Re: Electrical Meeting & How much lighting 6Apr 08, 2014 10:05 pm lila rose Are you owner building? Just need to make up my mind about how much lights. I went to beacon lighting but the sales doesn't seem to be that informative. I went online and it seems i found the domus 13w downlight seems to be one of the more efficient ones at a good price: http://www.ledbenchmark.com/display.php ... Tilt+White I think i might just have to buy one to try it out.
