Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 02, 2014 11:52 am Ok i have built the house, landscaped the front and have done the basics for the backyard like putting in the much needed retaining wall. But now I'm stuck!! I am looking for a modern tropical garden but heres the trouble, between the house and the retaining wall itsonly 2.3m deep and 13 metres wide. I also have an alfresco room that has a concrete slab and is about 4.5 x 4m wide What do i do with this space? Any suggestions? It is such a good source for this kind of thing. Please see the link I have attached here. It looks similar to kind of space you seem to be dealing with. In a space so small, you don't really want to be dealing with turf. I would think stepping stones and low maintenance ground covers. Also for your alfresco do you want a tiled finish or a timber finish. You could extend the timbers out a bit further too. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/kellys-lush-urban-alley-small-153644?utm_campaign=Feed%3A+apartmenttherapy%2Fre-nest+%28Re-Nest%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_source=feedburner A small water feature might work well at the far end too just to give you the sound of running water. Nothing too extreme. I am sure that Bunnings would probably have something that would suit. As well, how about adding a creeper to the side fence to cover it a bit. There are quite a few that work in lower light conditions. Then you could add a large mirror to the wall of the alfresco to increase the sense of light and greenery. I am not a landscaper but just thought a few of these things might help your brain start ticking over. I wish you the best of luck with it all. Make sure you post some pickies when you are done.
