Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 05, 2014 12:22 pm Hi Everybody, I am new the forum. I have been following some members build journey - wow you guys seem really informed. I hope I am like this too by the time I get to putting the slab down So I am looking for some advice. We have a good size block 840 sq metres, so we really want to build a single story house and utilise the block (and lets face it, none of us are getting any younger to be going up and down stairs) However, the problem I have is I really don't like any of the single story displays, where as I find the double story displays really stylish. So we are thinking we will have to have a custom designed home but I am really nervous because sometimes I will read a plan and think the house will be amazing only to find its absolutely awful when we go to see it. We have spoke to the sales people and other people who warn against getting an architect then going out for quotes as often the Architect can't stick to budget so you end up totally blowing your costs or not using the design. However I think getting the design right is one of the most important steps. Has anyone got any advise for us? We have been chatting to WBN quite a bit but its a bit of a lucky dip what designer you will get by the sounds of it.
