Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Simonds Harcrest build in Brisbane 121Aug 05, 2014 1:07 am Wow, I love your facade BG. I'm in SA and building the Avalon with Newberg facade. I'm sure we have different brick and tile choices. But I'd really appreciate knowing what your colour choices are is as it will help us find something similar, I'm sure. And the colour of cladding too please, it's all great. I think they look great. We want light colours to help with energy efficiency. But it's hard creating a light colour scheme that has any 'warmth' visually. Geez, that is so contradictory! Anyway, I think you have something there that might work for us! EDIT: if you have a photo without the shade, please post it thanks! Re: Our Simonds Harcrest build in Brisbane 122Aug 05, 2014 9:03 am Hi tomcat, ur and aussiepam! Thanks for the kind words. It must just be me who isn't loving the colour scheme Tomcat I will dig up the exterior colors for you tonight and post them. Here's some other pics that might help, they're from a bit earlier in the build thought.. Love it, you are saving me a lot of agonising BG. Thank you so much. I like your other colours too but what you have is what I want right/ need now! It's so hard to choose. That scheme will suit a light roller door too. Our front faces west so Mr T is insisting on a light colour garage door. Such a party pooper. Anyway, I'm a very happy lady right now. No more weekend reconnaissance trips through the burbs finding nothing that's light in colour that will suit our facade. Done thanks for the extra piccies (swoon) and looking forward to your deets. Yay! Re: Our Simonds Harcrest build in Brisbane 124Aug 05, 2014 10:40 pm I agree with you TomCat - it is so much easier to decide on colours when you can see other similar homes - like you we are in Adelaide and are struggling with exterior colours (of course the ranges we like are all non standard) - it makes choosing easier if you can point to a home and say "thats it thats what we want"! I love Brissyguys colour choices too and the photos are really helping us make decisions (thx Brissyguy) We were choosing a staircase the other day and I said lets look back at your stair photo - if we hadnt of had that to refer to we wouldnt have realised we only need a hand rail as the staircase is enclosed between walls!! - the power of a picture Now for the hard bit - choosing a colour scheme using SA suppliers that looks as good as your new home. Re: Our Simonds Harcrest build in Brisbane 125Aug 05, 2014 10:53 pm Oh and you're building the Harcrest too Pam. Lovely house. Yeah it's hard visualising how it's going to be when you haven't seen it! Can't wait to follow your build. I think you're a bit ahead of us. I can't find any Avalon builds on here to follow, so Brissyguy's is the next best thing what facade are you getting? I'm trying to work out BG's -- Plymouth or Waterford maybe? Whatever, it's lovely! Yay! Hi tomcat, Didn't have an electronic copy but here's the exterior details. I can give you internals too if you want. From your list above Brissyguy it looks like SA suppliers can match some of them Re: Our Simonds Harcrest build in Brisbane 128Aug 05, 2014 11:34 pm TomCat what facade are you getting? I'm trying to work out BG's -- Plymouth or Waterford maybe? Whatever, it's lovely! Pretty sure it's the Plymouth. We shrank our balcony a bit so it might look a bit non-standard. Hope that helps I linked our actual floor plans way early in this thread so maybe more useful into in there too. Cheers, Geoff Re: Our Simonds Harcrest build in Brisbane 129Aug 06, 2014 12:16 am Fabulous, you legend Geoff. I just been reading over your journey. Funny how the bricks did look meh on the pallet. But they've now got presence. And your mortar, although not as bright as expected is fine in the whole scheme. The 'slurry' bricks are a bit of a weird thing but all the nice colours are slurry bricks. We have a nice full clay brick here which I think might be similar to yours. I'm sure Deluxes has it --- Archipelago. D if you read this; is Archipelago full clay? And do you reckon it looks a bit like Brissyguy's? Thanks again for this Geoff! I have my interior sorted but I do like yours too That is a nice facade! Re: Our Simonds Harcrest build in Brisbane 130Aug 21, 2014 1:46 pm What's happening. - have you had hand over yet? I stumbled across a new build simonds very close to where i live and was happy to see the Canyon brick being used- makes my brick choice much easier. Don't forget to show us how its looking. Hi aussiepam and others. Sorry it's a bit of a blur at the moment with the house but more so work trying to finalize a big project. So we have handover tomorrow morning at 9am. There is a disagreement over a couple of issues but I am living in hope they will be resolved before handover. I'll wait til I see what they fix before I post the list up.. It's only 5 or so items. Meanwhile the retaining wall is going in and were packing the old house up like mad! Update tomorrow night Re: Our Simonds Harcrest build in Brisbane 133Aug 22, 2014 12:29 pm Exciting news - we have keys and have completed handover. Not exciting news - several items raised at PCI have not been fixed. Our site super was away so I guess someone else was coordinating. The CSO is calling the SS today and organising it all. I have returned one set of keys to Simonds so they can come and go until next Wednesday when we move in. Slightly disappointing finale to an otherwise build. I am confident they will fix the key items quickly though. As promised here's the list: - no front door handle, only a deadlock - deadlock doesn't latch completely - some silicon missing in shower - weep holes need some cleaning out - one of the gutters doesn't join up to the house (1cm gap) - manhole cover missing - damaged window and scratch on glass That last one was a point of contention with the SS so I'm not surprised it wasn't fixed. CSO agrees it needs replacing. Really only the front door handle and shower silicon are critical to me. Pics to come when I get back there tomorrow, had to run to work Re: Our Simonds Harcrest build in Brisbane 135Aug 22, 2014 8:22 pm Hello from Melbourne! We live in a Simonds home but have also built one in SA, the Leon. Your home is coming along nicely. Loving all the touches you have made and colour choices. Cant wait to see more of the kitchen Re: Our Simonds Harcrest build in Brisbane 136Aug 22, 2014 9:47 pm Congrats on handover brissyguy, hopefully all of your issues get sorted out before you move in. Blinds and shutters going in, moving, settlement on old house to new buyer. Simonds are still fixing up a few things but have been pretty good so far - we're building a list for their "1 month maintenance" schedule. I snapped a few really bad photos which is lame I know. After we finish unpacking this weekend hope to put proper ones up. Our carpet guy was pretty mediocre, he has to come back. Retaining wall guys are great - man that's a big project. Not so good though were the boundary survey pegs, the fence holes went in and were obviously wrong to me. Goodbye 800$ to get an urgent survey done, money well spent thought! Allllso not so good is the bobcat guy we hired whose machine "slipped off" a dirt pile and destroyed the neighbours new turf. Not our cost but their SS was ** - they had handover for this Friday. Not best way to start neighbourly relations! Overall still very happy though. This house is massive! There are always issues at handover and over the next few months - unfortunately but it sounds like Simonds are quite good to deal with (sigh of relief here) Shame about the other problems but hopefully they all get fixed quickly.
