Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 21, 2008 5:50 pm Well we met the supervisor this morning. Funny so many of you mention multiple meetings with your supervisor, but we'd never seen him before. Guess we never needed to.
I wasn't expecting any issues, several things weren't finished but we'd had a slightly early first inspection due to delay with a couple of things and they want to get to handover by the end of the month or at least very early June. So he pretty much had everything listed that was due for completion, including refitting the doors because of the carpet being too high, retouching the plaster in spots on the walls and around the rangehood. one chip on the kickboard laminate, couple other minor things and the rest was pretty much flawless. I got on my hands and knees and looked in everything, turned on all the taps, checked the stove, wiggled anything that could be wiggled, checked the walls for plumbness. pocked and prodded, etc etc. And all was fine. I kept a close eye on the process as it was going up as you all do and had no issue along the way either. After reading so many posts on here about listing 40plus problems I was a little worried that we didn't find anything much, thinking that we might have missed stuff but I think we just got lucky and got good tradies and a good supervisor. I will put pics on soon. I promise. Em Re: Successful first inspection :) 2May 22, 2008 12:59 pm I think the more fussier you are, the more you know, the more problems you would pick up.
Just my 2 c, a few things to check, which is better to pick up any problem now than later: Try filling up all your bath tubs, bathroom/laundry/kitchen basins and leave it there for half an hour then check for leaks under the basin/cabinet. Try spraying water "around" the taps of your bathroom/kitchen and see if it leaks below. Try spraying water "around" the basins of your bathroom/kitchen and see if it leaks below. Re: Successful first inspection :) 3May 22, 2008 9:36 pm Well thanks Ahuang for your reply, nobody else seems interested in a positive story. Give em a negative tale and they all jump on it like a pack of vultures.
Just don't agree that just because I didn't find any issues doesn't mean that I'm not fussy enough and don't know enough about construction. I've been on every single detail of this house from the very beginning, whole house could have been done in pink and green spots and hubby wouldn't have known the difference, but I knew all details and checked each bit going in. Sure I'm not a builder but i have been around construction and building before (not brick and colourbond but the principles are the same). I also took my Dad to the inspection and he single handedly build a two storey 5x2 house on the farm when we were kids. The only thing he didn't do on it was the wiring. And he was totally satisfied with our house and I trust his judgement. Is it so hard to believe that a builder can do a good job? Re: Successful first inspection :) 4May 22, 2008 9:48 pm HI Dolly. Congrats on your successful inspection visit. I'm looking forward to the pictures. hint hint.
I say bring on more positive stories. Building is such a scary time it's easy for us to get overwhelmed by everything. Im sure some people are much fussier than others - but the main point is that YOU are happy with YOUR house! If so than congrats -thats awesome! And we want some pics!!
