Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 41Apr 02, 2014 1:11 pm Thanks everyone Some good tips. Wonder if it's true about baking cookies to get the delicious smell wafting throughout the house? If I do that, do I have to leave the cookies there, or can I eat them? Haha! Thanks for the window tip. I've actually been meaning to get them cleaned for AAAGES, so this is an even better excuse. Wondering about carpets...we were due to get them cleaned end of this month, do you all think I should still do this? There are absolutely no stains, marks, etc, so not sure if I should bother? We just get them done with the couches, mattresses, etc, which I won't be getting done yet since they'll be going into storage anyway... 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 42Apr 02, 2014 1:16 pm i would still get the carpets done. when i sold i did a big clear out and some went to storage and some went to charity etc. even when i moved from storage to the new house i still managed to have more stuff to throw out. Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 43Apr 02, 2014 1:33 pm I wouldn't bother with the carpet cleaning! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 45Apr 02, 2014 7:44 pm I don't you will need to coz as you say they are not dirty it's just the too of you . My carpets were 11 years old all I did was get a bunnings machine and did it myself I'll be doing the same thing again once all furniture is out . .i though about putting lollies in a nice bowel ,but since Easter coming up you can buy little Easter eggs . Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 46Apr 03, 2014 11:32 pm When I bought my first house, the carpets were filthy, the windows were worse and the ceilling fans made a dust storm when turned on. It was disgusting. When I sold, it was clean, but my point is, don't stress too much A mark here or there won't make a difference. I wouldn't bother with the carpets. ______________________________________________________________________ Signed up Jan 2013........Almost done! My thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65763 Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 47Apr 04, 2014 4:48 pm Thanks everyone. Wasn't thinking of getting it cleaned until we had a contract, but I'll see how they are looking. Getting a bit nervous now, don't know why! House is already cleaned and ready (had it like that all week in case someone wanted to look through), and I know we aren't likely to get anything out of tomorrow, but I'm trying to put some good vibes out in the universe while still being realistic! I'm interested to see how long our build takes this time, from contract sign date tip completion. Last time it was exactly a year, however there were two factors that will differ this time: 1. We aren't relying on any government grants towards our deposit, which delayed us by about 3 months (good) 2. The new house is (hopefully) going to be around a third bigger, which I imagine will not only impact the build time, but drafting, etc too (bad) I'm not fussed though, we will be in no hurry to move in since we won't be paying rent, rates, water, etc while we wait, I'm just intrigued! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 48Apr 05, 2014 10:08 am Congrats on the land and good luck with new build. I'll have to check out your old thread. Hope house sells quickly for you. Where in America were you for a year? I assume travelling all around. Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 49Apr 05, 2014 2:21 pm Ardie, that probably read wrong...we only went for 3 weeks, just spent all my spare time researching it! That trip we spent in NYC (my fave city in the whole world), Vegas and Disneyland. Second time to all three, but we won't be going back to Vegas or Disneyland - two times is enough for us. We're going back to NYC next December and trying to decide where else to go. One of our friends is living in Canada so it'll either be Whistler or maybe Chicago. We also considered San Francisco because we love it there, but we feel like we need to go somewhere we haven't been! We are off to Hawaii (second time for me) in June this year, ideally we'll have this house sold and be living at mum and dad's by then! Open house was this morning...haven't heard anything from the real estate yet, but they probably had some straight after...we'll see Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ DH also let me know last night he's ordered a custom frame for my amazing Kerrie Hess print he bought me for Valentines Day! I've been searching for a frame for AGES as it's a bit of a big size and doesn't fit one I had in mind... This is the print: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I have two of these in the white, and was hoping it would fit in the other, but it's too big. So now I have a spare! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I also have one in black, in our niche Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Hopefully it's something similar to these, as our 'wedding wall' (you can see it on my old thread) also has similar frames, along with a massive one that we still haven't filled. It was meant to be a surprise for my birthday (next week), but he had to tell me as I was going to order one myself haha! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 50Apr 05, 2014 2:59 pm Hey Stellabella, there's a vineyard in Margaret river called Stellabella. I think of that every time I type it in! Now you'll think I'm just an old wino but actually I'm allergic to alcohol (yes, really)....! I'm interested in why NY is your favorite? What do you love about it? I've rellies over there but always dragging my feet not wanting to go. I think I would be overwhelmed with the number of people and the smog.... Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 51Apr 05, 2014 3:14 pm Haha! That's so funny! My real name (Crystelle) is also a brand of lingerie, so I 'should' be a seductive alcoholic...when I am really neither haha! I don't know...there's just something about it. I feel like I could live there for twenty years and not be sick of it. Endless amounts of things to do, but we stayed in Tribeca last time and I loved just wandering the streets there, as well as Brooklyn. Maybe because it's a completely different way of life then where I live (small town!). Flower markets on nearly every corner, combined with massive highrises; then you'll come across a farmers market in the middle of a gorgeous park or on a sidewalk. There are little parks and playgrounds everwhere; you'll just stumble across them. And there's so much history! Such a combination of architecture and design in all the buildings, they are just amazing to walk around and look at. We didn't even notice any smog at all when we were there, and it really only gets crowded around midtown (especially at holiday time, as we found!), but you can pretty much avoid that area apart from a few trips to see the 'must-sees'. I sound like a fanatic now...although maybe that's what I am. I'm so obsessed with that city, I have little pieces around this house to remind me of my one true love! Haha. Now I'm going to be thinking about it all weekend... only 630 days til we are back there again 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 52Apr 05, 2014 3:46 pm Ahhhh I would so love to go to New York. My girlfriends and I are all planning to ditch the families and go together for our 40ths (ten years away!!). I really hope it happens. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 53Apr 05, 2014 4:29 pm Ahhh, also possible I read that wrong:-) yes, new york is amazing, I grew up just outside the city in the suburbs. Though I could never live there, I think it takes a special breed to be a new yorker, and a lot of money! But it is incredible, unlike any other city and certainly never a dull moment. I've never actually thought smog was an issue in new york, maybe because it's surrounded by water. Los Angeles on the other hand can be gross that way. The smog just sits over the valley. San Francisco is my fave u.s city! Now you're making me a little home sick:-) though we love it here so much, no real interest in moving back. Good luck with the planning. I'm a researcher too, can barely leave the house without a plan! Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 54Apr 05, 2014 4:44 pm Emy, I hope for your sake it happens too! Beware, you'll never want to holiday anywhere else haha Ardie - I'm SO jealous! You're not wrong about the money though. Even living in the same state (maybe even country) would do me...anything's better than a 24 hour trip to get there! lol. I do love San Francisco too, it reminds me a lot of Melbourne 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 55Apr 05, 2014 9:20 pm Agree both what other say there is just something about NYC. I spent a year working as a nanny in New Jersey and was just 30mins by bus from. NYC. It is an amazing city. I would get the bus in and just walk all day, its amazing the things you will stumble across. While I wouldn't live there I'd happily love to have a month to just explore!! Btw loved you first build and the new one looks exciting!! The only thing I'd consider is if its a long term house with the potential of kids having a study/nursery near the master.... But it looks like an amazing plan and block!! Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 56Apr 05, 2014 9:41 pm Why have I wasted my life thus far and not moved there? My mum keeps telling us we should go before we have kids...spend a few months or a year there...but I feel like a.) while DH would walk straight into a job (being a chef) I would have much more trouble, meaning we couldn't do anything and/or afford to stay anyway and b.) it just delays coming back to reality and having to get another mortgage/start all over again! I had thought about that fmac, but the main bedroom should be big enough that we can have a bassinet in there for a while (that's what my friends seem to do!) and then just have a baby monitor or whatever. I'd rather have them as far away as possible, so when DH is home and looking after them, I can keep sleeping - can you tell I don't have kids and am not planning on having kids for a few years? Haha! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Stellabella's second build! Honestly as mother of a nearly 11 year old it sounds sensible - when you become a mum there a couple of ways you can go and neither are wrong......a close friend of mine said you either fit then into your life or your life changes......me personally my child fitted into my life but again that was my choice Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 58Apr 05, 2014 10:11 pm All I can say, is if you can fit them in you are very, very, very lucky. Mine are all so different: first off they had different routines and sleeping patterns, and still do. I just had to go with the flow...I've got two night owls and an "early to bed, early to rise" kid. None of them would sleep anywhere but their own bed once they hit about 9 months old. Diffrent strokes for diffrent folks. Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 59Apr 05, 2014 10:24 pm The grass is always greener I guess. I'd take Australia over NYC any day at this stage in our lives:-) as someone "older" and with kids I'd say go for it. Try it out. Sounds like you can always come back and now is the time to do it, but I love travel and trying new things and do believe things happen for a reason. Maybe this block coming available was meant to be?! As far as kids, my almost 8 yr old was distraught when he saw the display of our new house and realized his and brother's room was "so far away" from our room. He doesn't know we planned it that way:-) Re: Stellabella's second build! Land offer accepted! 60Apr 05, 2014 11:05 pm Just catching up on your thread stellabella. We are taking our two young boys with us to the states and Canada for five weeks mid October - sounds like you'll be over there just after us. Cant wait!!
