Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 24, 2014 12:55 pm Hi Everyone. We are looking at building a home on acreage and I am tossing up between these two plans both by Coral Homes. I do love the Marcoola but it seems very dark in the kitchen/dining areas and in all the display's Ive visited it was quite dark (though not sure if that was due to time of day or positions of the house as I always visited around 3pm.) Depending on costs we would love to add an extra room at the back. The Stradbroke has also caught my eye as it seems very well lit and ventilated. Depending on additional costs I would add an extra room and powder room to it as per my little mock up.. only negatives seem that the kitchen isn't an island bench which I like and the kids activity room seems like a space that would be difficult to use. (Minus the Powder Room) I do like the Stradbroke more than the Marcoola, but you'd have to really consider the position of the games room and where the access point would be, as you wouldn't want to walk outside to go back inside. As to the natural light, it would be hard to say, as that would also depend on what is around your block that may block light, position of the block and where north is relative to the front of the house, etc. You can always add in skylights if you are concerned any one spot may be dark. Re: Coral Homes - Cant decide which is better Marcoola or St 4Mar 24, 2014 6:39 pm Can you see into the toilet from the front door on the rhs plan? Do you have to use coral? Plans for acreage style houses might suit better. IMHO, an urban style house looks a little lost on an acreage block. When saying a room could be dark I guess it all depends on perspective, facing of the house and where you decide to have your llights put. In regards to the kitchen, no design is set in stone. We knew the kichen we wanted and changed everything to suit. Wjth island and breakfast bar. Good luck and hope you are able to decide on something you love. J&J Building our Home on The Coast. Re: Coral Homes - Cant decide which is better Marcoola or St 6Apr 20, 2014 1:35 pm Thanks for your suggestions. Yes I did look at the daydream and originally thought it might be ok, we drove out to the display (the smaller version without the games room) and hubby didnt really like the feel of it. The location of the pantry and the master bed room so far from the garage, he also felt that the living areas felt quite small and not really open. Though it does have all the rooms Im after and rear deck would be nice. The games room we would add to the marcoola or stradbroke we would probably just position a door through the media room. Ideally we would have it opening up to the deck anyway for ease of use. Though that is a luxury addition and probably wont happen. Ive looked at acerage designs but I really hate them. The long hallways with rooms off it really doesnt sit well with me. We prefer open plan designs, master away from kids, and kids (well ours are early teens) having the ability to have their entire own wing is something that we like about the stadbroke. Ive tried looking at other builders and no one has any plans that come close to what I like.... Metricon do but they are really out of our price range so Coral so far seem the best priced for what we want. It is pretty dark inside, but they went for the chocolate cave style look, which you either like or dislike. Personally i like the warm cave style houses If you used brighter tiles, brighter cabinets and brighter paints it would look a lot warmer. I like to compare the Noosa 23/24 next to it, as it is fairly bright with a similar style with the kitchen in the middle. If you are concerned with light, possibly consider a sky light. My only dislike with the Marcoola is the master bedroom. I dislike plans with the master bedroom at the front of the house. Personal preference.
