Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 21, 2014 7:46 pm Hi, I am building my 12 meter wide house on a 17 meter wide block. We want to build as close as we can to one side of our house and have a small side access on the other. Can someone please tell me how close I can build to my side boundary? I think from memory it is 1.5 meters? We just need to find a spot to put our water tank and we would prefer it to be on the side where no one will have to look at the ugly thing ![]() Thanks Re: Building boundary 2Aug 21, 2014 8:14 pm I think for most areas its 950mm from your boundary but given the space you have I'd still stick to 1.5m so you can still get some good light down that side and comfortably walk around the water tank. You can screen or plant around the tank to hide it or I think some can even be buried. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Building boundary 3Aug 22, 2014 8:56 am ![]() Can someone please tell me how close I can build to my side boundary? It varies, from council to council. I believe it's 900mm where I am. Check your local council's planning (zoning) documentation, which is likely to be online. Look for "side setback" requirements. Also, if you are building a 2 storey house, be careful. The top storey may have a larger side setback than the bottom storey (ie. the top storey may have a larger minimum distance from the boundary than the bottom storey), to stop overshadowing. You should be able to encase the sewer but you will need it designed and approved and access to lot 580 to do the work 2 18078 ![]() Hello, We are about to build and the plans show a part of the exterior wall is being built on top of a limestone retaining wall. Does this mean the retaining wall will… 0 7499 Good on you for having a go I am the opposite of DIY (so will pay a builder) - our vibe is industrial/simple so current thinking is 150mm concrete and then internally is… 3 3491 |
